“Very nice for the special price”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

The bed was super comfy, the location was great (very close to inner city shopping centre), the chocolate biscuits were a nice touch, the bathroom was clean and very nice, free wifi always a bonus.

The Coachman has two signs - when you come from the city towards it, the first sign leads you to the motel units and what you would think was the reception/office. As it was dark when we arrived, we didn't notice that the reception was in fact the front door to some beauty place (something like that). It wasn't until we had a closer look and walked back on to the footpath that we saw the second sign which was where the reception was. This could have been pointed out upon confirmation of booking instead of us having to ring Booking.com to figure things out. All reception said was that it happened to some people. Not a major problem, but could have been alleviated with a simple courtesy email or even something about this on their website.

This was my visit for around 20 years to the Coachman and the standard was great. The décor could be described as country English, but it suits the hotel.

Certainly my room had a luxurious feel about it, with 9 pillows on the spacious bed and the bathroom was better than most hotels I have stayed at.

I would happily stay here for the weekend when I have a choice of hotel.

Room Tip: I have no idea what all the rooms are like, but 308 was very comfortable.

we stayed here for two nights and stayed in one of the studio motels and found the price per night very reasonable.
the hotel room had everything we needed, kitchen,tv,bathroom.
we could use the spa, pool and gym however we didn't get the opportunity due to our schedule to use these.

The bed was terrible, it was lobsided and it made it terrible to get a good nights sleep
I ordered room service and enjoyed the food.
we would stay here again.

Room Tip: we good a good deal via WOTIF website and had no issues with the booking.

We stayed here again on their weekend Facebook deal, which included breakfast in the restaurant. The motel unit looked like it had just been remodelled - it was very upmarket. Large room with a comfy bed .We had a back unit, so very quiet. The communal spa pool was empty, so had a good long soak before bed. The maître-de at breakfast is very good at his job and friendly. Good variety of breakfast items, and decent bacon - cooked lightly and not killed by over cooking.
Friendly efficient staff on reception. We will stay here again when we visit family if we can get the weekend deal.

Room Tip: Ask for a back unit if you don't want the road noise.

Stayed the first night with our son, wanted a larger room in the motel block so had to be at the front of building. Traffic too noisy. Second and third nights just my wife and I so we moved to the hotel. Cost a little more but well worth it. Much better maintained room, very quiet, nice outlook at back of building to a quaint backyard with water feature ... . Would return again.

The hotel is okay for a short stay. The rooms are nice and spacious but getting a little old. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the city square and shopping centre. It has underground parking, a small pool and a "gym". The gym was a big let down with some old cardio equipment and 1 machine. I also had a lot of problems connecting to the wifi even though I was in a room close to reception and in the wifi zone.

So disappointed in our stay this year. Rooms were nice and up to standard. The first negative was on arrival. On arrival we went to the reception to pay in full for our 2 nights accommodation of 2 rooms. The guy on the desk mucked around and was not on the game. Told us our two room numbers then proceeded to give us different keys. Though he must of been confused when telling us the numbers. So off we went to find out 1 of the rooms was already occupied. back to reception we go to find out the right room. From then on it was problem free until the 2nd night of stay a room a few doors down had a party until 5.30am. Nothing but a call to their room was done to stop this or a visit to ask them to be quiet. I found this so appalling. never mind all the other guests that got ZERO sleep that night. Then the next day getting a phone call from the reception asking us for our credit card details so they could charge the room to us! We had paid when we arrived the amount in full. You should be refunding us our second sleepless night. Disappointing service all round.

Room Tip: Stay if you don't need sleep.

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback on your recent stay. We are very disappointed to hear that your sleep was disrupted during your stay by some unruly guests. I have checked into the matter with the Night Manager and he has given full details on the events of the evening and he also informed me that he was finally given no option but to warn the guests that they would be removed from the property if they could not control the noise.

Hotel Coachman wants to ensure all guests have a relaxing and comfortable stay while they are our guests in Palmerston North. Please accept our apology and feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss further, michaelhudson@coachman.co.nz
