I stayed here for one night. I found it warm and comfortable, and relatively well-priced for having my own bedroom ($35). The kitchen was clean and tidy, the bathroom was clean (my shower didn't have the best pressure, but the water was hot!) and my bed was comfortable enough. There is a great lounge room with books and boardgames and a roaring fire keeping the place toasty. There was also a great outside smoking area. I found the location good (short walk to the main restaurant/bar strip) and having free off-street parking was a real bonus!

My only problem was the location of my room (see below).

I have no problem recommending this place to others looking for a reasonable hostel in Palmerston North. It may not have the amenities of a YHA, but I found it adequate for an overnight stop.

Room tip: I can't recall the number of the room, but it was a twin share that opened into the dining area. It was quite noisy in the morning and I felt a little uncomfortable leaving it to have a shower feeling the eyes of those having breakfast on me!

Poor location in relation to the bus stop, though it is close to other amenities.

Staff were borderline rude to myself and other guests, it was almost as if staying with them was an inconvenience. Even the signs around the hostel relating to checkout seemed quite rude.

Basic facilities such as the kitchen and the bathroom were average but there was little else on top of these and anything there was was below par and outdated.

Terrible value for money, expensive dorm rooms where you are not even supplied linen (only place in NZ where I came across this...they didnt even mention in their publicity that this was the case and seemed very annoyed when I said I wasnt carrying a sleeping bag). There are much cheaper hostels where you get better rooms, facilities, service and extras.
