It is a great memory staying out there for two weeks. The lovely owner lady and lovely place to stay. The staffs are always there for help. the motto of arrive as a guest and leave as a friend is absolutely correct. would come again someday.

We had 6 motel units for 24 adults and children as an extended family for 4 nights to attend a 90th birthday, and found owners Pip and Russell to be very professional and understanding when dealing with a large family group.

Rooms were clean, serviced daily and had easy to use amenities, plus a large laundry room.

The location was ideal for access to and from the city centre, plus the location of where we had the birthday function.

I consider the motel is great value for money and would recommend them to my friends or others who are planning on visiting Palmerston North

The motel was extremely clean and well serviced. It was handy to town and to the bowling arena that we were visiting. The gardens were beautiful, not a weed to be seen. It is a pet friendly motel so that is why some of our blind indoor bowlers stayed there because we had guide dogs. The managers of the motel had pets, who were well behaved and friendly. The lawns were very tidy and well mowed. When we had a wee problem with the channels on our TV, the manager came around and fixed it very promptly for us, in fact went out of her way to do that. I will certainly be telling others that it's a great place to stay and I would return there without a thought.

Hubby in Palmerston North for business and I came with him to do some shopping in the city. He called me at 2pm to find a place to stay as his meetings were running at least 4-5 hours over schedule and I had our 5 month old baby with us. I was sitting in the car on Fitzherbert St, going though Wot If listings online when I realised we were sitting right outside the Pavilion Motel. It looked lovely and clean and they had a “flaming deal” of $115.00 per night so I went in and asked if I could book directly with them at that rate and the gentleman was happy to do so.

He showed me the three rooms available at that rate (one with a lounge/queen in bedroom, one with a spa bath/queen in lounge/2 x singles in bedroom and one with a walk-in shower/queen in lounge 2 x singles in bedroom). I thought this was really helpful of him and he was very pleasant the whole time. He also said one was very noisy (closest to a major intersection) which another review on Trip Advisor mentioned, so it was good to see owners advising guests of this matter. Advised owners that I would likely be leaving at about 11pm, dependant on how tired my husband was as we only lived an hour and a half away. When I went back to get the port-a-cot, the woman in reception advised me I’d only written 2 people on the registration (mainly because I wasn’t even sure my husband would be staying later) and for the 5 month old baby, there’d be an additional charge of $20.00 for the evening. I guess the baby would use $20.00 worth of water in his bottle eh? $20.00 worth of air perhaps? We’ve stayed in 13 properties since our baby was born and this is the ONLY property that has charged for a baby. I really wasn’t impressed with her manner.

The Pavilion is very clean, but dated. The toilet in Room 9 is also one of those that continuously fill after flushing unless you slap the cistern. No DVD player in room, but access to a DVD library from reception (bizarre), website advised kitchenette (which to me suggests a ceramic hob/frying pan or electric grill at the very least) but the room didn’t have this. The jug, microwave and fridge have seen better days (probably in the 1990’s) but still serviceable. TV’s are the older, cheaper LG 21”/25” style.

Potential guests take note; animals roam free on this property. All good for me, as I especially love dogs, but if you have a fear of dogs or really hate to see them crap over the grass area in front of your room (witnessed, but kudos to the owners who cleaned it up with in 15 minutes), this may not be the property for you.

Wireless is by way of connection to Cafenet which charges $20 per 70MB’s (yup...that’s right...for only 70MB’s). Late check-out is available at a charge of $20 per hour.

$135.00 is still reasonable for accommodation, but honestly, you’d be better off paying an extra $5 or $15 dollars and staying in Executive Spa 3 at Supreme Motor Lodge or BK’ Suite 17 (both booked), rather than at the Pavilion Motel.

This lady was asked to change the numbers on her registration form so that in the event of a fire or evacuation for other reasons, we would know how many people would need to be evacuated from the unit..we do this for our client safety, and regardless of the time they "think" they may be spending in the unit..whether a few hours or the whole night as this stay turned out to be.
The charge for the extra person ( baby quoted in this review ) is standard in most motels, and covers the usage of the bathing and feeding of a child plus use of the portacot and the linen supplied for it. (However in this case the lady supplied her own cot sheets.) Parents still use the microwave, and spa bath for their children during a stay, hence the extra charge.
What this person does not say, is that SHE WAS NOT CHARGED the extra $20, and that we went to the room that evening to tell her that. In her review, she makes it look like this charge applied, but it did not.
The information she has put in about the DVD library is correct in the fact that there is a free DVD library in reception, and if she had read the compendium, she would notice that the DVD players are kept in reception, and delivered to the rooms on request. There have been incidents where our players have been damaged beyond repair with children being allowed to shove soggy biscuits into them, hence the reason to remove them from the units.
Kitchenette, is the standard form of advertising throughout New Zealand for: jug, toaster, tea and coffee facilities, microwave and associated crockery and cutlery. FULL cooking denotes a stove as well, but again, if the client had asked, we could have supplied hobs for the unit.
Being totally pet friendly, we do have a lot of clients who travel and stay with pets, and yes, like children they do need to go to the toilet. In fact, at that particular time, we had several clients staying who were in Palmerston North for the New Zealand Blind bowling champs, and the dogs on the lawn were their guide dogs.
We can only assume that this lady got the Wifi prices off the net, as nowhere in any of our Cafe net brochures does it quote prices. Please note that we were only a wifi access point at this time, and Cafe net makes the rules on it's charges, and that all monies go directly from the client's credit card to them and not us.
The following morning when these guests checked out, they paid $115 ( the Wotif flaming deals price for 2 although 3 did stay ) and not the $135 she is quoting, and that when asked how they slept, the husband said extremely well..and nothing was mentioned about the toilet cistern running. We do have to thank her for pointing that out in her review, as a whole new system has been installed, but unless these things are bought to the owners attention, we remain blisfully unaware!
While we respect that you "can't please all of the people all of the time" we feel that this review is slightly misleading in a few respects, and required us to comment on certain statements made, which may be off putting to others

What a super motel Extra-friendly hosts made our 4 night stay just perfect. The room was very clean and modern, the bed comfortable and the shower fantastic. Pip went out of her way to help with directions and recommendations for dining out. Our dog was made very welcome too which was the icing on the cake. Thanks so much, we will be back!!!

Very comfortable and clean, friendly helpful hosts and located just out of the city within easy reach of the surrounding countryside. Nothing seemed a bother to our hosts from a blown lightbulb to allowing our dogs into the unit (under our full supervision).

A enjoyable trip made more so by great accommodation.

I came down to Palmerston North to compete in the New Zealand secondary schools cycling competition. The different events were all outside of Palmerston North in all directions so the central location of the motel was great.

I stayed in unit 12 which had a living area with a double bed, a separate bedroom with two single beds and a clean bathroom. Beds were all very comfortable and warm with electric blankets. The kitchen was alright but would have liked there to have a stove. Having a few sky channels meant that we were entertained when not cycling.

Owners are very friendly and so are their dogs who run to you in the morning, they love it when sticks are thrown for them. There was even a trampoline! Overall I loved my stay at the Pavilion Motel and hope to stay here again next year.
