“Total privacy and yet close to Margaret River and the beaches”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

My wife and I chose to stay twice at Hilltop Studios during our 5 weeks trip to WA. We spent a lot of time in Margaret River and stayed in various accomodations. This one we preferred by far the most as we really felt at home. The stylish studios have been furnished with a lot of taste and attention to details such as organic toiletries. There is everything you need for a perfect holiday! In the spacious room as well as on the sunny terrace you find complete privacy and have great views to the wonderful landscape. Within a few minutes drive you arrive in Margaret River or at the fabulous beaches. The Landlords Paul Lane and his wife Claudia are extremely friendly and helpful and will make everything to make your stay enjoyable.

What a place to stay while you are in Margaret River! You want to be as close to nature and wildlife as possible and at the same time you want to enjoy the luxury and amenities of modern life? Well, then this is the place you want to go to! The loftlike studios offer an awesome view on the gorgeous Margaret River forests and bushland. In the morning you wake up with the chanting of the many birds around the area and you can watch the kangaroos and honeyeaters from the bed or spa tub. During the night you enjoy complete tranquility and peace in your comfortable kingsize bed. What a treat! We will be back again!

Stayed for just one night and loved it! We were in studio 2 which was the perfect size for 2 people with a great layout. Great big windows giving great views over the grass hill and bush. We loved the little extras such as the lead for our I-pod (always good to have some tunes!), Binoculars to check out the view, DVD's, Books on the table, Games, tea and coffee and some chocolate in the fridge!
What was also really great was the late checkout at 1pm and then the owner popped around to offer us to stay a little longer seeing as the weather was pretty full on with rain and wind. Also, just from the short meeting with the owner, you can see he really cares for the place and is truly trying to do his best! That's great to see!
Anyway....we'll be back for sure!

Great chalet (no 5) lovely views through wall of windows, private, quiet, relaxing and friendly.
Great spa bath with folding windows giving the outdoor indoor experience.
Rather pricey, but loved it anyway. Could do with adding some luxurious touches expected in this price range... Fluffy robes, chilled water bottle (tap is just fine, but a receptacle to put it in the fridge needed) Perhaps curtains in the winter? Oh and a heater in the bathroom would be nice. Will absolutely go back, but could have felt a little more pampered.

Room Tip: Unit 4 & 5 have spa baths and superior locations.

We recently stayed at Studio 2 which it seems by the reviews not to be the deluxe version, but unfortunately it was the only one available at the time. Studios 1 to 3 are separate from 4 to 5, and perched in a secluded spot about ten minutes out of town. Yes it was secluded with lovely view of valley, and it gave us the much needed down time to rejuvenate, but the studio itself was far from what I would describe a "luxurious" - quite disappointing actually. We have travelled a great deal and I must say I should have done more research on "Studio". I didn't realise that this meant that the kitchen, bed, lounge and dining were all in one room. No wardrobeswith doors only hanging rails, cheap looking pine type cupboards in kitchen. Had a caravan feel to it. We did not fancy cooking a meal inside due to the possibility of cooking smells in the room so cooked on the BBQ outside. The refrigerator rattled and was noisy when trying to sleep.....not a good vibe and not my idea of luxurious. To be fair the studio was clean, the bathroom was of good size, and lovely spa products and bath towels - but the tiled floor was deadly when wet after a shower as there is only a shower curtain. Tip: I purchased sponge dish clothes to soak up all the water on the floor after every shower. The king size bed was very comfortable and television mounted above the kitchen bench so that the best view was from the bed - not the lounge area. The lighting throughout was very dim for the purpose of a romatic atmosphere I guess...........but for avid readers the lighting was hopeless after dark. We both would try to get best vantage point of the one corner lampshade to read. The surrounding decking was the biggest plus as we were able to sit outside most of the day - the scenery and birdlife lovely.Never saw a soul the entire time we were there so secluded is the correct descriptor. All in all we felt like we were in a 3 star chalet - definitely not 5 star rating.

Room Tip: Take AAA batteries with you, none of the remotes worked.

Thank you for your review of Hilltop Studios,

We are happy you enjoyed some of the many elements we considered when designing the Studios.

We apologise for the problems with the fridge and remotes. We appreciate these should not have been an issue upon arrival but had we been notified we could have promptly resolved the problems. (Adjusting the fridge thermostat and AAA batteries are well within our means) We appreciate your thoughts on the lighting and have installed some higher luminescent globes and while we have not experienced problems with the showers and floor tiles in the past we will examine the issue.

Throughout the Studios we have selected the highest quality furnishings and fixtures as listed on our website. These items are consistently upgraded and replaced. For the comfort and enjoyment of guests we also include a collection books on the region, a selection of DVD’s, binoculars, Mohair throw rugs, Savi Organic Toiletries, fresh roasted organic coffee, and complimentary Lindt chocolates. Along with privacy, seclusion and beautiful views.

While we feel this goes well beyond basic accommodation, we appreciate your input and will continue to improve the experience we offer our guests.

We drove down from Perth in a camper van and couldn't bear to sleep in it ( nothing like the brochure advertised) and looked for somewhere to stay near Margaret River. The trip advisor rating on Hilltop Studios was excellent so we turned up, a villa was free, and we loved it so much we stayed 3 nights. It's 8 k out of the town, so had to taxi around after our wine trip, but we loved it. Clean, spacious, very quiet and with a beautiful view over the valley full of kangaroos.

We recently stayed in studio 5 at Hilltop Studios, and what a lovely and tranquil place to stay.
All 4 studios have fantastic views over the valley and are secluded enough that you don't see, or hear, anyone in the other studios.
The studio we had was very roomy and well kitted out with a very comfortable bed and a spa bath with window opening onto the view, delightful! It was so peaceful sitting on the veranda with a wine just watching the kangas.
Margaret River is less than 10 minutes drive away If you need to go in for supplies or dinner, and of course there's many great wineries around to visit as well.
Will definitely stay here again and can easily recommend it to anyone staying in Margaret River.
