Lake Cave

Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Lake Cave is a stunning crystal wonderland and the only cave in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge with a permanent lake. It acts as a mirror of infinite reflections that is truly magical. The cave is renowned for the ‘Suspended Table’ – a five tonne column of calcite that hangs from the ceiling just a few centimetres above the lake. The precinct features impressive retail, interpretative and cafe facilities. Located 25 kilometres south of Margaret River.

“Best Cave in Magaret River Region”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2014

The cave entrance is 300 over flights of steps down including almost vertical ladder to the cave gate. Unlike other cave around the region, the entrance of the cave is hard to find without a guide. No wonder it took decades to locate the entrance after Fanny Bussell first inadvertently discovered it. The massive doline, the suspended column of calcite and permanent lake are main features of the cave. The interpretative center, gift shop, the lookout and restaurant facilities make this cave more attractive then others.

“Good to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

All the way down the 300 steps, I kept thinking getting back up was going to be interesting and very slow!
Once finally there the guide, Ricki, was very informative and helpful with questions. The cave itself is not that big and I was expecting more than what was there, although it was still worthwhile seeing with interesting formations. Only hit my head once.
Advertised hourly tours, but running them half hourly during the school holidays and some of those were booked out.
Finally made it back up vowing to stop the chips and chocolate!

“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

The commentary by the guide helps me to further appreciate the wonder of that place. The limestone formation was amazing. Coupled with lightings and the reflection of the pool in the cave, it was almost magical. It was also comfortable and cool in the hot summer.

“Amazing cave”

The floating table was amazing! Worth a visit but book tour times in advance during peak season. Guides were knowledgeable and managed group well. Allow 1 HR for the tour.
