Owner description: Lake Cave is a stunning crystal wonderland and the only cave in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge with a permanent lake. It acts as a mirror of infinite reflections that is truly magical. The cave is renowned for the ‘Suspended Table’ – a five tonne column of calcite that hangs from the ceiling just a few centimetres above the lake. The precinct features impressive retail, interpretative and cafe facilities. Located 25 kilometres south of Margaret River.

If you are not fit enough to walk up and down a couple of hundreds of steps, then forget about it.

It costs $22 per adult for a just under one-hour guided tour. Karen was our guide last week. She was enthusiastic, professional and funny.

The formations inside the cave were amazing. No glow worms in this cave, so you're free to use flash photography.

It's one of the must-go places in the Margaret River region.

We visited Lake Cave this trip to August and Jewel Cave the trip in July. Both are absolutely stunning. Thanks Karen for being such an enthusiastic and personable guide. We all loved the experience. Now trying to psych myself up to do Moondyne Cave!

First up, make sure you are fit enough to attempt all the steps. I didn't have a problem and jogged up most of them ( and I am nearly 50!), but others were struggling. There are plenty of places to break the climb, besides jumping off :), but it is tough and steep in places. Probably the worst thing to do would be to take a toddler or baby and have to carry them back up. Seriously, wait until they are truly independent before sharing this adventure with them.
Having said that, wow! It is so worth the physical exertion. The sheer beauty of Mother Nature is breathtaking and the guides are so informative and knowledgeable about this subject (Steve was our guide). When you realise how long this structure has continued to change, and will do so long after we have gone, it is truly amazing.
This cave may be one of the smaller ones, but it has some excellent and unique features. The suspended table is one of them.
The cafe has a good tea and coffee selection to quench your thirst after the climb. On our visit, we were served by one of the nicest people I have met. This was hospitality to the max. After guiding me to try Oolong tea ( thank you), and learning of a family difficulty, the lady (sorry I didn't catch her name) performed a charitable deed. Goodness, people do still have the ability to surprise me.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here inside Lake Cave. We didn't have time to go to all the other caves so we chose this one.

Our guide was Karen and she did a great job at teaching us about the different rock formations such as the process of stalactites forming through rain water seeping through the ground.
