The website gives the impression that this is a resort in the forest - peace and quiet etc. It's not.
It's clean and well maintained and comfortable but that's all. It's on the Bussell Highway and right in the town. Not much retreat there. If you're looking for a motel - and not a holiday - it's fine. Though it's probably overpriced in what is already a very overpriced region. Margaret River has definitely lost it's edge over the years and is now over-exploited and tacky touristy. There are better places to stay in the region.

Room Tip: Away from the road.

Thank you for taking the time to review Margarets Forest. For a return visit to Margaret River, it is really disappointing to read you feel the place 'has gone backwards' as having personally only lived here myself for just 5 years, I have yet to run out of things to explore and enjoy in the region. I can honestly say that I personally am in love with the place and that love is reaffirmed daily by many of our visiting and returning customers. I could only wish that it was infectious, but this time I guess it clearly wasn't to be. I hope there may be an opportunity in the future for us to change your mind, as we look forward to the challenge. Any suggestions to make us less 'motel' like (which we don't want to be labelled as, as our rooms are nothing like a motel room) would be most welcome. Our apartments are simply spacious, mostly double storey and self contained in the heart of town with a backdrop of the forest. Enjoy your travels and may the road lead you back to Margaret River one day to impress you once again... we hope ; ) Happy Easter from Astrid and the team at Margarets Forest

We stayed here for 2 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment. Bedrooms are on the ground floor with living quarters upstairs. The apartment was very well equipped. Our bedroom faced the main road but traffic noise was not a problem to us. It is in a very good location on the edge of the town. Opposite is a home made bakery - umm really nice. The town has a variety of shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask for one away from the main road.

My hubby and 2 boys stayed for 3 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment. We found it to be very well equipped, plenty of towels and very comfortable. My boys are 2 and 1 so the stairs were a bit of a problem, maybe a stair gate would come in useful, the staff did give us a porta cot to block the stair case which was a little help. Great location to walk into town. Had a lovely time and will recommend.

Booked 3 nights and on arrival found the reception very helpful. The unit was very well appointed and very clean. Close to all the eateries and shops and a great launching pad to access all that Margaret river has to offer. Only possible negative is it's close proximity to traffic but this was more than compensated by the price.

Pros: The rooms are massive and feature small kitchens and very comfy bed.
Location is great. Right in the middle of town. Walking distance to restaurants, info centre etc.
Cons: no room service. I.e you have to clean up after yourself.
The bedroom room layout is terrible. The shower bath is located behind the tv which makes showering privacy difficult unless you find this romantic. I don't.
The toilet is also just next to the bed so you can hear ka plops sometimes.

For the second time in three years we spent five days over Christmas at Margarets Forrest, in a two bedroom self contained apartment. Travellers are spoilt for choice in this area so for us to have stayed twice and plan to return for Xmas 2015, they have to be doing something right.

While it's true the location on the main street may not suit all, we found no interference with our comfort or sense of amenity. The beds were comfortable and we did not notice any particular street noise likely to disturb our sleep. Another positive would have to be the shower; steady, hot and pretty strong considering the water restrictor.

However, there were a couple of minor negatives which I think worthwhile mentioning. When we arrived the apartment was still being made up despite it being listed as ready. Our unpacking was delayed about 45 minutes but we utilised the time to go grocery shopping at the IGA - what a gastronomic delight of prepared meals that place is! Unfortunately on our return, while the housemaid was nowhere to be seen some minor details had not been attended to. I needed to sweep the stairs and undertake a little additional cleaning to bring the apartment up to the standard we had experienced on our first visit - no biggie but a little disappointing. One of the couches (I think it was a sofa bed) was so uncomfortable as to be unusable by anyone over three - another no biggie, we simple moved the couches and only used the more comfortable one. This was OK as there were only two of us but it might have been different if a third or fourth adult had been staying too.

Nevertheless, a most enjoyable break in significantly better than average accommodation.

Thank you for coming back to stay with us at Margarets Forest to celebrate Christmas and sharing your experiences. I have made some enquiries about the circumstances on the day of your check-in and was explained that when you arrived before 2pm, the room was still being cleaned. Our check-in time is 2.30pm, but when the office receives notice a room is ready an earlier check in may be awarded . It was an unfortunate timing issue and I can assure you that this confusion does not normally occur at check-in after 2.30pm. We regret that you didn't feel looked after us due to the confusion, but there are still plenty of housekeeping and maintenance staff around at 3pm, so we would encourage you contact reception straight away if there is anything not perfectly in order so we can have it rectified rather than leave you to your own devices. We hope this otherwise didn't impact on your holiday too negatively and look forward to improving on your experience next time you visit. Please accept our apologies and best wishes for a wonderful year ahead from Astrid and the team at Margarets Forest.

Great location by the main street in walking distance of restaurants and bars. Very helpful reception staff who gave us brochures and explained about the area on arrival. The room was lovely, though a little dated, but they were very homey and comfortable! It was great having our own kitchen area to save eating out for every meal! Would highly recommend!
