I stayed over a week at Karri Manor, with two friends. We were doing the beautiful Cape-to-Cape walk in stages, as well as exploring the wineries at Margaret River.
Karri Manor is a great place to base yourself for a stay in Margaret River.
It is very spacious, with the bonus of a wonderful veranda and outside furniture and BBQ facilities.
Inside, the kitchen is well appointed, complete with dishwasher, there are two bathrooms (though one is a spa one that you have to clamber into) three sitting areas, and a full laundry. We appreciated the presence of dishwasher detergent, as well as plentiful liquid soap and toilet paper in the bathrooms. The house was very clean, with the exception of the oven (see below).
The house is a five-minute walk from the shops of Margaret River. However, it faces a Karri forest and is very peaceful, apart from the energetic bird life close by.
What stops Karri Manor from being truly magnificent is a lack of attention to detail and not keeping some of its features of a good quality.
For instance, we found that both the queen-size beds seemed to have gone past there ‘use by dates, although the single bed that I used was fine.
The towels while clean, are close tho threadbare.
Kitchen equipment needs a major overhaul. Much of the crockery was chipped; there was no grater, no measuring cup, no stirring spoon, few teaspoons, no plastic storage ware, and blunt knives. One of the frypans could be replaced, perhaps with a wok. The oven was plain grubby and the icemaker in the fridge did not work.
If, as landlord, I were hoping that my tenants would sweep the floor occasionally, I’d provide a better broom and dustpan for the job.
Overall, Karri manor is lovely. However, for the price charged, it could have had a better presentation.
