My family and I stayed here over New Year. I thought the cottages were very clean and well equipped. We had everything we needed. The setting is great, you feel as though you are miles from anywhere but there is so much within a short distance. Very peaceful and full of beautiful wildlife. Gail was very welcoming and was able to advise us of places to visit. Would definitely recommend these cottages for a relaxing retreat and great form families.

Thanks Diane. We're delighted to receive your comments as it reinforces the fact that we're on the right track. Just last week, we marked several hundred of our wonderful trees with new coloured discs - differentiating between jarrah, marri, 2 types of banksia, western woody pear and snottygobble. We've also started construction of our long-awaited rammed-earth entry statement, so there will be noticeable changes when you next visit.

Over the years my family has stayed at a number of self-accommodation places around Margaret River. Overall, Bussells Bushland Cottages was the best. The website description of its location, set amongst its own large bushland area with kangaroos, rabbits, various birds etc passing your porch are all accurate...all very exciting for our young kids.

Despite its very quiet location, its only 10 minutes to the beaches, 5 minutes by car to Margaret River Town and even less to Caves Road with its various wineries etc.

Gail the owner was very helpful throughout, and responsive to any requests we made re kids needs.

I'd highly recommend a stay here, especially for any families living overseas who want a good base to explore Margaret River area yet have a great home location to just chill out as well at the end of a day.

I'm glad you found us as I strongly believe that we have something very special to offer overseas visitors. During a recent visit, we spent time strolling along the bush walks and around the perimeter...enjoying our superb forest and the many kangaroos which live here. We've owned Bushland Cottages since October 2001 and can't think of a better inheritance for our grand-children.

We spent two relaxing nights at Bussells Bushland Cottages. Although initially being disappointed at being given only one queen bed & two singles, rather than two queens as requested, we had a delightful stay. The cottages are very comfortable & it's obvious that much work has been put into providing such a peaceful environment. The cottages are very quiet and the surrounds provided wonderful scenery. You can truly escape & feel apart of nature. The cottages are clean & well presented & it is only a short drive into the town centre. Would highly recommend these cottages to anyone wanting to unwind & enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Thank you for your very kind comments. As regards bedding, in order to cover all bases, we've set up 2 "couples" cottages (Queen X 2), 3 "small family" cottages (Queen X 1 plus 2 Singles) and 3 "Family" cottages (Queen plus 2 double bunks). We will always try to assist with bedding requests, however it's not always possible. Next time, you might wish to book well in advance and request cottage # 5 or # 6. Thanks again.

My family and I (4 adults and 1 baby) visited the Cottages in mid-December for 3 nights. There was plenty of space for us all to enjoy the quiet natural surroundings inside and outside the cottage. The rooms were big enough to put a portacot for the baby and still walk around.

Very clean washroom and kitchen. The kitchen was well equipped with everything a family would need to make meals through the day and the Weber BBQ on the patio was used constantly. Recommend visitors bring tupperware or ziploc bags if needing food storage as there wasn't any which is no biggie.
A slight inefficiency was that the washroom toilet and shower are located in the same room, so morning routines were slightly slow but you don't stay at Bussells Cottages to go by a schedule or fast-pace.

Our favourite part was the kangaroo and joey that lived in the bush outside our cabin (#4) and hopped by dusk & dawn. The bird feeder hanging on the tree brought some stunning birds.

Overall, a fab location and great value for money. Enjoy!

Our delightful bush block is home to many kangaroos and several of them loll around the cottages during the day. As long as you don't get too close, they will relax and pose for your photos (giving every appearance of being tame, which they aren't). We've just spent a few hours strolling along the walk trails while installing new coloured discs (denoting tree types). The walk trails are a wonderful way of getting back to nature and we highly recommend that our guests undertake a stroll in the early morning, or late afternoon.

The cottages are beautifully located 4km outside Margaret River but you even feel further away. Set amongst trees for a lovely shade and surrounded by beautiful paddocks - you will encounter many kangaroos around you and don't be surprised to see one when you look out of your window.
The cottages are perfectly clean and offer everything you may need for a relaxing holiday. Mobile phone reception is poor but anyhow this is a place to unwind. If you need to get online than the Wifi in the rooms is your option.
Upon arrival you find a starter breakfast with some cereal, toast, jam, milk, juice and coffee/tea. The kitchen is well equipped including an outdoor BBQ for all needs.

Thank you...It's always pleasing to read and hear that we're satisfying our visitors. We've owned the property since October 2001 and our improvements reflect the comments as expressed in our hundreds of completed questionnaires. Most recently, we've installed Wi-Fi - despite the lack of ADSL, the distance between the cottages and our wonderful trees. Mobile phone use remains problematic, however you can now undertake this via Wi-Fi (in some instances).
When you visit next, you'll see that we've installed a new rammed-earth entry statement...another step in our ongoing programme of improvements.

These cottages was so easy to book, to find and convenient for visiting in the area.
Equipped as well as anything we have stayed in, including some of the great local beachside resorts.
Well managed, very clean with modern appliances etc including a gas weber.
The internet connection is working now and our mobile phones although patchy due to the location worked well enough.

Room Tip: There was a heat wave every day /night of the four we stayed. The rammed earth cottages with the cei...

We're thrilled to see that our visitors are appreciating what we've done with the cottages and that increasing numbers are enjoying our gazetted "Land for Wildlife" property. For those who take the time to stroll along our walk trails, or the perimeter fenceline, you're almost guaranteed of seeing mobs of kangaroos. A recommendation for when you visit next...take a torch and experience a night walk through the forest.
Thanks again for your kind comments.

Once we arrived the beautiful and self-contained cottage, our children got really excited and while running through the whole cottage, our son can't help but exclaimed to me: "mummy. this is really a 5-star cottage". I couldn't agree more! We totally enjoyed our every moment in the cottage.. woke up in a morning, greeted by beautiful happy chirping bird sound. One of the days, a kangaroo and its joey were jumping past our cottage and our children were totally thrilled to see the kangaroo at such a close range. The owner supplies some bird seeds to feed the birds and this really gives the children something to look forward to in the morning. The cottage is surrounded by beautiful bushland and a map was provided for bush walking purpose. We have done twice the bush walk and it was indeed a great experience. We saw kangaroos jumping all about and greeted by cool breeze and wonderful sounds from the birds.
The cottage is situated at a convenient place, just a short drive from town, yet its quiet rural setting with fresh air, give such a peaceful feeling.
Gail, the Manager, is very helpful and friendly.
Our 3-nights stay is unforgettable. If we go visit Margaret River again, Bussells Bushland Cottages is our confirmed accommodation. It is a definitely recommended place to stay for family who is visiting MR... and I will make sure my friends know about this.
Last but not least: Good job, Gail. P.S. hope yr hip has totally recovered by now.

It's great to hear that our Singaporean guests have enjoyed their visit, particularly so as there is so much that's different from their normal lives. Our 20 hectare (50 acre) bush block has a variety of native timber including jarrah, marri, peppermint and banksia, and is home to mobs of kangaroos, some of which loll around the cottages. In truth, I believe that visitors will see more kangaroos in and around this property than anywhere else in the region. And that's not all as we have possums, bandicoots, brush-tailed phascogales and many varieties of birds.
Thank you for your comments and we look forward to having your friends and relatives visit in the future.
