My wife and I dined there last week while holidaying at Margaret River, which we visit several times a year. We've dined at many restaurants in this town but this was our first venture into the Arc of Iris, inconspicuously tucked away on the high end of the main street almost at the corner of Wallcliffe Road.
It was recommended by several local friends, but being fussy about our food we noted another clue to a good restaurant: It's a BYO - and in case you're not familiar with the term it stands for 'bring your own' - wine, beer or whatever. It's significant because the restaurant can only survive if it produces good quality meals, and it's also great because we could enjoy a wine we'd purchased that day in one of the many local wineries.
Fortunately we booked ahead as the place was full when we arrived at 7.00pm .
The service was warm, friendly and efficient, wait staff knew the details of each item on the menu. My wife chose Oriental duck and I ordered steak, after being assured by the waitress that the local product really was very tender.
Both meals proved to be top-class and there was just enough room for us to share an equally delicious dessert.
We came away in full agreement that the Arc served food of a quality we had not previously discovered in this town and it got our tick for the best we had experienced in Margaret River. We are looking forward to dining there again on our next visit.
