I've been here a number of times, it's quite expensive for being a pretty basic "up-scale" pub meal. I love pub meals, but it's expensive and they don't seem to take it up a notch or figure out what's good. Almost institutional quality food.

Margaret River Hotel and Restaurant is situated on Main Street in the centre of town and thank goodness it's there as a reminder to the planners and architects who would otherwise spoil a wonderful place with horrible new buildings

Having got that off my chest : ) we were welcomed by a friendly Irishman(?) who seated us and asked what we wanted to drink

This is a new departure as previously you had to go to the bar to order from their good selection of beers and wines

Another change is that the pizza oven has gone from the main dining area - a pity because good entertainment in past

Sadly this entertainment has now been replaced by the ubiquitous plasma screen showing non-stop footy

Do we really need this? I moved seats so it was behind me

There's a lovely crackling log fire for the chilly times and the seating is roomy and not overcrowded - a bonus these days, and gives the kids lots of space to move around

They really look after kids here, always provide things to do, draw, build, play etc so bring yours, they'll love it

They'll love the food too as a dedicated kids menu that even the fussiest will like

Adults food is brilliant, really difficult to choose, but in the end we all went for catch of the day, after all, this is a maritime area as well as being one of the worlds best wine regions

All in all, enjoyable, wholesome, friendly . . . but do we always have to have distracting TV screens everywhere?

We visited on a cold and rainy night, and the place was bustling. Good food and a pleasant atmosphere.

We stayed at the MR hotel for 2 nights, and ate at the restaurant one of the nights. There were 3 adults, and we all enjoyed our meals. Our table was right by the fireplace which was really lovely. I did think it was a little odd that there was no table service, rather you had to go up to the counter and order/pay for your meal there. This was no issue though. We also were a bit disappointed that they did not do breakfast - as we were staying in the hotel it would have been convenient if we could have had breakfast here. Would recommend anyone enjoy a meal here.
