We had an ensuite double/twin room (queen bed+single bed) for 2 nights during summer. Location is great- within 5 min drive of the town centre- so it must be one of the best value accommodation in Margaret River (we got it for $120/night). There is a short easy drive on unpaved roads to get to the lodge. Reception was friendly and we were given a very handy map of Margaret River with the locations of attractions and their phone numbers. Check out is before 10am and all we had to do was leave the key in the door. Housekeeping's done after every 2 nights.
On entering our room, it looked good- the place was very clean and spacious. Towels were left neatly folded on our beds and soaps were provided in the bathroom. There were coffee & tea facilities with milk and a fridge. A few magazines were provided on a coffee table. The shower head was old, but did a good job. Other than one or two tiny spiders on the bed, we had no issues with bugs. Beds were clean and comfortable. The backyard view of the bush was very nice- I saw a kangaroo hop by once in the distance.
Not so good points: There's no internet, but phone reception was great so you can get on the Net that way. We didn't have a remote control for the analogue TV. The fly screen door to the patio could not be locked, so we didn't feel comfortable leaving the sliding door (which does have locks) open at night to catch the breezes. This would've helped a lot with getting better sleep because our room had no air-conditioning, only a ceiling fan. Note that this might not usually be an issue, but WA was experiencing a heat wave so it did get a bit too warm for comfort on our second night. So if in doubt, bring a portable cooler or get a room with air-cond. If it had this, I would rate our experience a 4 star. No issues with noises from other guests, but now and then, strange plumbing? clinking/thudding during the night did wake me up twice or so.
One nice surprise from staying at the out-of-the-way lodge is how beautiful the night sky looks after 10pm. We were amazed at the concentration of stars we saw out there- seems like conditions were ideal for stargazing. I tried to take some pictures, but did not do it justice.
In summary, a great place to stay in Margaret River, but maybe bring a cooler or extra fan just in case, if staying in ensuite double/twin rooms.
