We had the tasting plate and some beautiful Chardonnay whilst taking in the Scenery of the winery. It was a perfect day complemented by great food and wine. Worth another visit to try more food!

Watershed is a delightful winery, with well-priced, high quality wines. The architecture and vista add to the charm of its location... and it's difficult to find a table without great views of the valley and water. Ray Jordan, acclaimed wine writer and reviewer, awarded Watershed both 'Winery of the Year' and 'Best Value Wine', in 2014. The restaurant's entry wall is covered with Gold Plate awards, confirming that in past years diners have enjoyed culinary excellence.

Our last three visits have been disappointing. "Three visits?!" I hear you ask. "Why go back?!" We love WW wines, enjoy the location and we're optimistic that things must improve. Service is competent and generally friendly. Ambience? Top marks. Complementary bakehouse bread, olive oil and balsamic? A great way to start your dining experience... .

Now to the menu. We understand that winery restaurants _must_ limit the number of dishes on offer, but the breadth offered at Watershed excludes many. We enjoyed a superb 2012 Zinfandel with our freshly-baked bread... shared an entre and my partner attempted to find a main. An earlier meal here indicated that the restaurant experiences the same difficulty with farmed barramundi as _most_ do in the region.* Being pisceterean, my partner finally settled on an egg(!) for lunch. Vegetarians will find it equally difficult... .

I chose the duck. Both mains were disappointing considering the price. A quarter of my two strips of duck constituted inedible fat. (See photos.) We're hopeful that our comments to staff and in this forum may mean we'll return next year and enjoy praising the excellence of Watershed's offerings... .

* On a coast with plentiful demersals and a rich diversity of seafood, it's a puzzle why so many local restaurants offer much-overrated farmed barra as 'fish of the day'. It's bland.

A most impressive lunch! On a recent mini-break to Margaret River we decided to try the restaurant at the Watershed Winery having enjoyed a very nice meal in the cafe on a previous occasion. Admittedly it was a Friday so the restaurant was not full. The service was efficient and very pleasant. The food could easily stand up against any restaurant in Perth for its presentation, freshness and value for money. We ordered the tasting plate for entree and the variety of flavours were delicious. We chose the duck and the pork as our mains. I was looking for the confit of duck leg which accompanied the duck breast and it was cleverly disguised as a brussel sprout! The duo of pork was beautifully cooked as well. The vegetables: who has the time and energy to prepare carrots in a conical shape as well as this attention to detail with the other roasted vegetables. Quality desserts at $12 each are unheard of now in Perth restaurants. The apple tarte tatin was cooked to order and the poached pear with associated large slice of pistachio and olive oil cake with orange mascarpone cheese mousse was almost the straw which broke the camel's back but well worth it.:)
Quality wines by the glass were an added benefit.
All in all a very creditable meal and we will be back!
PS the outlook from the restaurant is lovely as well.
