The Lord Forrest has seriously passed it's prime.

Once the 5 star flagship of Bunbury acommodations, it is in dire need of some tlc.

Our last stay was an over priced and very bland experience. Noise was a serious issue and the internet... not even worth using.

Sadly this will be our last stay

The intriguing layout of the cylindrical Lord Forrest with the indoor pool located right amonst the sofas, billiard table, and Alexander's restaurant soon becomes its downside: there is little privacy for the pool users (i.e. none) with five storeys and a restaurant worth of spectators, and all rooms are equally exposed to the all-day splashing, chatter, crying and laughing sounds from the pool area. When the pool was closed for a few hours due to a private function, it soon became evident that this is the key attraction for families staying in the Lord Forrest as suddenly the gym (where children aren't permitted) was crowded with little feet and little fingers - too close to serious weights equipment. Breakfast at Alexander's was OK but on mornings when fewer guests were around, staff stopped refilling plates and started clearing the buffet 30min ahead of time. Rooms aren't the most modern but clean, all featuring a balcony.

Good service by the staff all around, very engaging and prompt in their service.

Was in Bunbury for a wedding, and loved the on site undercover parking they provided. The room has a small kitchen and a lovely balcony which was great since most hotels didnt have that feature for safety reasons. Foxtel and with shops and eateries nearby, what more can you ask for.

However I was unhappy about the shower area though, didnt like the grout that was on the tiles but maybe I am just a stickler for detail. Add to that lifts which seemed to stop at every of the 5 hotels floors and you might wish the emergency evacuation staircase could be utilised at times like that.

Didnt try the breakfast but will recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel that has bang for your buck.

Room Tip: Room 312 has a good view from the balcony.

We have been here several times. Although the property is old it is always clean, the staff are great, the parking is secure at no extra charge and it is in the main street within walking distance of all the eateries. I have stayed in far worse in major capital cities, highly recommend.

Stayed here for 1 night last week on business and was extremely happy with the hotel.

Staff were friendly and the room was excellent with a balcony and a view.

Arrived a little late in the day to explore the surrounds so I had the room service and the food was excellent.

Cooked breakfast the next morning was delivered on time and hit the spot.

This is a hotel where you could take the family.

On entering the hotel it is very different to most hotels. Basically the hotel is round with all the rooms around the circumference. The central area is fully open from top to bottom. This gives a feeling of great space. The rooms are more than adequate and are good value. I had dinner in the hotel which was very good. The breakfast was also good.
I would agree with other reports that it is a little on the tired side but I would stay again especially as the price is good.
A downside was the swimming pool on the ground floor. The chlorine content was very high and this smell permeated the downstairs area.

Room Tip: Suggest a higher floor for the views

Bunbury. It isn’t really a destination. One of those places that you traditionally drive through to get somewhere else but thanks to the wedding of a good friend this is where we ended up for the weekend.

A little bit dubious about the hotels on offer we decided we wouldn’t bother spending a whole lot on accommodation and just booked the cheapest place that didn’t look like it rented rooms by the hour. Surprised to find the ritzy old Lord Forrest for $99.00 as a last minute deal.

I really do wonder about some of the reviews that people put on Trip Advisor because this was yet another example of things being way off the mark. We read the reviews and expected a dump. When we checked in it was far from it. Like every Quality Hotel we have stayed in it is very much its own place (i.e. not like a chain) but really very reasonable.

The hotel itself is totally 80s (which I really like) and it is true that atrium style hotels have probably had their moment (1984 being that moment!) but I quite like this style of hotel and the Lord Forrest, despite being a bit run down, is actually only a 3.5 star hotel and doesn’t claim to be anything else. It does 3.5 stars really well and that isn’t a compliment that you could hand to many other establishments with a similar ranking. I’d argue that it actually started off a bit higher up the star rankings and I do seem to have some childhood recollections of it being the fanciest place in town.

Fixtures and fittings in the foyer are a bit tired and with a bit of a refit it could easily go back up to a four star but, then again, that would probably be the end of $99.00 rooms for those wishing to soak in the glorious brilliance that isn’t ‘Bunno’.

We apparently had one of the crappy rooms and it was advertised as ‘lower floor’ which is kind of splitting hairs if you only have six floors in the entire hotel. It also implies that the other floors have a view which, Bunbury being Bunbury, probably wouldn’t be worth paying a premium for. The room was really reasonable. A light refurbishment not that long ago and a basic bathroom. Given that this was one of their cheap rooms, I’d be surprised if the other rooms weren’t at least on par. We expected far less....

It is true that the chlorine from the pool does pong a bit (not that much though) and that the pool area is a bit random. 80s grand atrium, poorly thought out addition of entirely out of place limestone walls and an olde England wooden bridge all combine for the type of presentation that should have hoteliers calling architects before they start renovations in buildings with a very defined style. That said, the pool is nice enough and the spa goes like a bat out of hell.

With the hangover from hell in tow, the breakfast buffet in the morning was excellent and capped off what turned out to be a really pleasant stay in a hotel that genuinely surprised us.
