Owner description: In May 2017 the Dolphin Discovery Centre began its redevelopment to improve and add to their existing facilities. Construction work began and our volunteer building and research room has been moved off its existing site to the block next door in preparation for our building the new Café/Restaurant. At the same time that this is happening the City of Bunbury is constructing a Coastline Revetment Wall for coastal protection, Department of Parks and Wildlife are building across the road and the Waterfront Project has begun with new landscaping and bridge work along Koombana Bay. So our area looks like an industrial zone BUT in fact we are still operating full steam throughout this whole process. Our Dolphin Eco Cruises will operate year round subject to weather and our Swim with Wild Dolphins will be operating next summer as usual. Much of the disruption will be finished by December and there will be new assets along Koombana Bay including a substantial playground, additional parking , a kiosk and a beach auditorium. The entire process for the DDC redevelopment including the new interpretive experience will be completed by November 2018 however elements will be progressively delivered. Entry to the DDC will be free over the winter months where most disruption is likely to occur so pop in and see what is happening. At times we might have alternate access to the beach for any dolphin visits and boat departures over the next 8 months. There are a lot of exciting times ahead and we appreciate your support through the process of building our new Café and Discovery Centre. The Dolphin Discovery Centre in Bunbury WA is 90 minutes south of Perth. Koombana Bay is home to local wild Bottlenose Dolphins who regularly visit the interaction zone at peak times during the year. Swim with Wild Dolphins or Dolphin Eco Cruises are a great opportunity to interact with the dolphins in their own environment. The philosophy behind the centre is to promote research, conservation and education of the Bottlenose Dolphins and other native marine life. The centre operates October to April 8am - 4pm (closed Christmas Day) and May to September 9am - 2pm.

I loved every minute of it.
I was sceptical at first.
We did the eco-boat tour for 1.5 hours and got to see many pods of dolphins. Our skipper was really passionate and knowledgable about dolphins and gave us a lot of information.
I love that these dolphins were in fact in the wild and not lured there!
It is getting too cold for the dolphins to come up to the shore for an interaction but included in the price of the boat ride you get two re-entries per person! (Great value!)
We used the entertainment book discount (25% off) and are students so at $30 each it was truly worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to pay the full $49 either for Eco-tourism and the fact that they are non for profit and the money goes back into conservation!
Definitely worth it!

The aquarium itself was not very big and maybe not totally worth the $10 entry fee but if you get to interact with the dolphins it would definitely be worth it! But why not try the boat trip?

Thankyou for reviewing for us and I'm glad you enjoyed your time with us. The $10 entry fee also allows you to come back two more times, so for less than the price of a coffee that is a great opportunity to see some more of the Discovery Centre. We have big plans for the future to include more displays and interactive ones at that - so watch this space!

The Dolphin Discovery Centre has so much to offer everyone at an budget. Learn about them in the centre or you can go on a boat and swim with them. Most of the staff are volunteers and will help you in any way they can. Bunbury is a great place to take some time out.

We managed to go on the one trip all summer where the dolphins didn't interact and yet we still had a great experience. Staff were knowledgable and good humoured and were outstanding in the way they helped my 8 year old son to snorkel when he lost his nerve. Saw a few dolphins very close up and can't fault the efforts of the boat crew to find them. Very fair partial refund policy/further trip when the dolphins do not interact-remember they are not in captivity here but truly wild. I would definitely go back if I could and it was still a great experience. The whole thing was very well organised-thanks guys!

Thankyou so much for your review! Such a shame the dolphins didn't want to stick around for your tour. As you say, it is how it goes when they are wild and that's how we want it to be. I'm glad you had a great time and got to see the beauty of the Bay. We look forward to having you back one day.

We arrived just before 9am and were rewarded with a visit from two dolphins a little while later. One stayed and played for about half and hour... an amazing experience.. made even more so beacuse the dolphins are wild and are not fed to encourage them.. they simply come to say hello. We were told that the best time for these beach encounters is between 8-11am.
We then took the 11.15am eco cruise. Apart from just enjoying the cruise around the beautiful bay and estuary, we saw several large pods of dolphins in their natural habitat.
The aquarium in the centre is also very interesting.. we "played" ( through the glass) with a very curious octopus.
There's also a cafe with reasonably priced food and drinks.. great for lunch or morning tea.
All staff were very friendly and helpful. We ended up staying the whole day and were rewarded with another visit from the dolphins in the afternoon.. magic :)

What a great experience! I pass all our reviews onto our staff and volunteers, they'll be pleased. Thankyou for taking the time to review. Our Octopus is very cheeky indeed! :)

It was good value and the young man driving the boat very knowledgable and approachable. We saw a lot of dolphins - a bonus. The staff in the centre were very polite. Recommended.
