Owner description: In May 2017 the Dolphin Discovery Centre began its redevelopment to improve and add to their existing facilities. Construction work began and our volunteer building and research room has been moved off its existing site to the block next door in preparation for our building the new Café/Restaurant. At the same time that this is happening the City of Bunbury is constructing a Coastline Revetment Wall for coastal protection, Department of Parks and Wildlife are building across the road and the Waterfront Project has begun with new landscaping and bridge work along Koombana Bay. So our area looks like an industrial zone BUT in fact we are still operating full steam throughout this whole process. Our Dolphin Eco Cruises will operate year round subject to weather and our Swim with Wild Dolphins will be operating next summer as usual. Much of the disruption will be finished by December and there will be new assets along Koombana Bay including a substantial playground, additional parking , a kiosk and a beach auditorium. The entire process for the DDC redevelopment including the new interpretive experience will be completed by November 2018 however elements will be progressively delivered. Entry to the DDC will be free over the winter months where most disruption is likely to occur so pop in and see what is happening. At times we might have alternate access to the beach for any dolphin visits and boat departures over the next 8 months. There are a lot of exciting times ahead and we appreciate your support through the process of building our new Café and Discovery Centre. The Dolphin Discovery Centre in Bunbury WA is 90 minutes south of Perth. Koombana Bay is home to local wild Bottlenose Dolphins who regularly visit the interaction zone at peak times during the year. Swim with Wild Dolphins or Dolphin Eco Cruises are a great opportunity to interact with the dolphins in their own environment. The philosophy behind the centre is to promote research, conservation and education of the Bottlenose Dolphins and other native marine life. The centre operates October to April 8am - 4pm (closed Christmas Day) and May to September 9am - 2pm.

“The best WA experience of our trip”
Reviewed February 20, 2014 via mobile

We were so fortunate to have an up close and personal experience with a curious dolphin and saw so many others in their natural habitat. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the staff were wonderful...their warm and friendly treatment of us and kids along with their great sense of humour made the trip even more enjoyable - thank you so much to the wonderful staff for making our day so enjoyable. This is a must do for any one visiting Wa.

“We saw the dolpins”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

The cost is $10 for adults and $ 5 for kids that is for 3 entries, but you need to get there early, the first day we missed the dolphins bit the second day they came around 3 times. The kids loved it.

Our local kids here come back time and time again, with 3 visits to every entry it's great value for money. There is a lot to see and do and we have big plans for the future to make it even better!

“Good place to see wild dolphins if you haven't”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

We went to the dolphin discover centre in Bunbury on a morning 1030 and discover no sighting at the beach so far. We were recommended to take the cruise to see them so we paid $49.5 per person for the 1.5 hr cruise.
The cruise was smooth and commentary is clear. We came quite close to the flock of dolphins and were with them for around 45 minutes.
It was worth the money if you have not seen them in the wild.
Otherwise, you can pay $10 for 3 visits to the indoor exhibition where you can see some marine creatures in tanks.

“Fantastic Day Out for Everyone.”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

We enjoyed a fantastic cruise on Koombana Bay, and encountered loads of dolphins, resting, feeding, surfing and jumping out of the water. This cruise does not guarantee dolphin sightings however, I don't know anyone who has been on this cruise that has not been lucky enough to spot a dolphin.

You are right, our tours are to see wild dolphins however we do make a guarantee that you will see dolphins on your tour or you can come again for free. At this time of year we have loads in the bay and you could sit and watch all day long :)
