Kaani Beach Hotel is the only hotel on the island at the moment. The hotel has the best imaginable location in the city, directly to the best and only "tourist beach" on the island. The hotel is brand new, opened in December 2012, everything is new and nice but do not expect a 4 star hotel on an international scale.
The hotel is super clean, and we've got a good treatment from all the staff and the owner, we could clearly feel that they want to do their best to give us a good holiday. You can easily experience the Maldives by taking trips to various resorts and overall you get a great experience for a reasonable price.
Should be improved:
1) Better Internet in the hotel, it is too slow and too bad.
2) Better breakfast, what we got was far from what one would expect of a 4 star hotel. The food was always cold and was not adapted tourists from different countries. Kaani Beach can do a lot to improve breakfast so guests get a good start on the day, good juice instead of lemonade, better homemade mamelade, better bread, eggs of your choice, fresh fruit instead of candied fruit, several selected options such as pancakes. Set of chairs and tables out for breakfast so the tourists can enjoy the beach and the sea instead of being indoors.
Maafushi is a charming small fishing village, tourism is not yet developed and it can be difficult to find good food, the beach is limited to small area but you can use bikini there. The city has a few small shops and the prices are still low, 3 liters of water to 1 USD, so do not worry about the prices in Maafushi. The city has no restaurants besides the restaurants at the hotel and the other guest houses, the prices are very reasonable and a dinner can be purchased for between 5-10 USD.

Room Tip: Ask fo Sea View rooms, they have a nice view to the beach and the green palms.

Great hotel, great value for money. We went there in February 2013, stayed for 2 weeks. We had absolutely amazing time. Thanks to the hotel staff and to Abdulla (the owner), special thanks to Asvad and Azeema for making sure, that we get our food the way we wanted. The hotel is certainly the best on the island in terms of location, interior the food is also good, however breakfast could benefit from more variety. We didn't mind as after all we went there for wonderful nature, turquoise sea and blue sky, not to enjoy food. Everyone should understand that variety is limited because it is an island. We'd never went hungry and we were always able to choose something tasty.
I booked directly through the hotel. It was so great to be picked up by the hotel staff from the airport to be taken to Male, then we decided to stay in Male for a few hours to look around and our luggage was taken to the hotel by boat.
We had booked sea view rooms and it was an ideal choice.
In general I can absolutely recommend this hotel to everyone. But do not expect food variety as in Turkey, for example. It is not a luxury island, but it is tranquil, beautiful and relaxing.

My mum and I have recently returned from a very relaxing 4 night stay at the Kaani Beach Hotel. We had a fantastic trip.

The hotel is affordably priced, we were very happy with the rate we paid. We booked a sea view room but on arrival were told they'd overbooked so we were moved to a 'city view' room, this was disappointing but we decided not to let it bother us. The city view wasn't a great view, but we only saw it when coming back / leaving our room so it was fine. Our room had a fridge in it which was available to us to fill with drinks purchased from a local shop - this was very handy. The hotel also provided two bottles of water a day for us which was a pleasant surprise. The hotel has 18 rooms in total and appeared fully booked during our stay so it seems a popular choice for travellers. The hotel is very clean, the housekeeping staff take great care to maintain the excellent level of cleanliness in all areas of the hotel. The reception staff are really helpful and friendly; my mum and I can be quite particular about things and the staff were willing to answer all our queries and assist with our requests - always with a smile! Everyone at the hotel wants you to have a fantastic stay and enjoy everything the Maldives has to offer.

The excursions are very competitively priced, a trip to a large sandbank (10 mins by speedboat) was only $20 per person - we did this and it was lovely, you really felt like a castaway! We also did a dolphin watching trip for 1 hr ($35 per person), it lasted longer than advertised (1 1/2 hrs) and we saw dolphins but not many and not close up - I suppose this is the chance you take on such a trip.

The food at the hotel is mixed. The breakfast was disappointing; there wasn't a great variety and it was often cold. However we ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, outside on the beach, on the first night and both had a very good meal, it was priced well too.

The hotel is in a great location, right on the beach. The area of beach directly in front of the hotel is the only area of beach on the island which is sectioned off, thus allowing women to wear a bikini when not in the water. This means it can get quite busy as guests from other hotels / guesthouses use it. The water is crystal clear and there is a small sandbank about 15 metres out from the beach which is lovely to sit on in the sunshine. The hotel has a sun deck available too, on the roof of the hotel. We used it a couple of times and were the only people up there whenever we did! Snorkelling is quite good although you had to go a fair way away from the beach to see fish which surprised me. There was a gathering of coral 20 metres or so from the beach and snorkelling was good there.

It is very important to note that Maafushi is an inhabited island, in the Maldives the religion is Muslim, so the hotel asks that guests observe and respect the religious beliefs of the locals. When in public places i.e. outside of the hotel or the sectioned off area of the beach, women should keep their shoulders covered and keep knees and thighs covered too. Basically, you can't walk around in a bikini / strapless minidress. This request didn't cause us any problems, but you do need to be aware of it.

We decided to travel to Maafushi using the ferry service. It was a much cheaper alternative to taking a speedboat from the airport. The transfer was quite involved but we enjoyed it! You have to take a ferry from the airport to Malė ($1 per person) which takes 10 mins, there is a frequent service so you never have to wait long for a ferry. The ferry to Maafushi leaves from the Viligili (sp?) Terminal which is a short taxi ride away from where the airport ferry docks - allow $5 for the taxi. The ferry to Maafushi leaves at 3pm and costs $2 per person. It took just over 90 mins, making one stop at another inhabited island on the way. When the ferry arrived at Maafushi we were met by hotel staff and were escorted to the hotel, our bags were transported on a luggage cart. It is time consuming taking the ferry and in hindsight I may reconsider especially if I was travelling a child / children or in a group of more than 2 people, however it was a cost effective option for us. The timings for the return ferry trip worked out better for us (the ferry leaves Maafushi at 7am with no stops on the return journey) so was a much better journey.

This is my second trip to the Maldives, I've previously been to a resort island as part of my honeymoon. The experience was very different HOWEVER, the price I paid for the trip was very different to before. This option makes a trip to the Maldives very affordable and I'm considering a return trip with my husband and son.

We were on a 5 days trip to the Maldives. We booked the hotel in advance, and was greatet in the airport by to people from the hotel. We where shipped by private speedboat to the hotel. We got the speedboat for $175. When we arrived to the hotel around 11AM we got our room right away, with an balcony with seaview. The room was clean, spacious and had all the things we needed.
The location for the hotel was the best, it's right on the beach and couldn't be more perfect.
The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful and you could tell that it was a family owned business. The food at the hotel was also very good, and can definitely recommend this as the best place to eat on Maafushi.

Our only critic is that we were 3 people in one room, and we good an extra bed which was an air mattress, and that was very uncomfortable, especially when you should sleep there for 5 nights. I would highly recommend the hotel to change that into real beds.
We would come back to this hotel again.

Me and my husband stayed in this hotel for couple of days. It has a decent restaurant and good beach in front of it. I was not very happy with the breakfast served. But, overall experience was good. choose this hotel as a stop over if you wish to stop and relax for a while. The beach water is extremely rough and salty. Not a good place for diving, but enjoy just lying around on the sand and dreaming :)
