Maafushi is an island with the village which means that it is not the dreamed location, unfortunately in March,we stayed, there is no beach here. To experience the wonderful Maladives beach you have to take a boat and sail to picnic island or biyadhoo island. None other islands does not accept residents Maafushi, and at the same Biadoo which also need to pay an entrance fee $ 11 per person, all the staff treat you like second-class tourists from the "cheap" island ... But that is another story.
Accommodation in WhiteShell is pleasant, it's clean, air-conditioning works fine, kitchen serves really good food at reasonable prices. In front of the hotel are comfortable beach chairs and hammocks .Every morning is a chance to see dolphins. But this is not a romantic island for new couples. In the village you can feel that not all people accept tourists, even if they are "decently" dressed. For this price, which is very low you can not expect anything more, you can spend the whole day excursions at the hotel. For us the most important was diving, and this hotel does not provide it. The only resort where you can dive is Biyadhoo but : it is about 100 dolars per one dive, and staff expect 10% service charge additionally ...regardless of what your scuba diving experience first diving (for the first 100 dolars!) is in the home reef ... no comments. Do not plan to spend vacation in Maafushi because in my opinion it is not a holiday destination, that is the perfect island for cheap stay and eat and to see Maladives. There is no place for romantic walks and spectacular sunsets on the beach. Unfortunately on this piece of beach whith was there was a lot of glass and dirt, I hate that people throw rubbish into the beautiful ocean there...

Room Tip: Select a room with direct view to the sea

We chose Whiteshell because of the budget price, and it was right on the beach.Having seen photos on the web, our expectations were low, as the building looks rather basic, however although the cafe is outdoorsy looking with sandy floor, the rooms were much better than we expected. We had room 302, for our 3 family members. Tall ceiling, wall and ceiling aircon, and ensuite toilet and shower room. All clean and light. Food is okay, nothing thrilling, but fine, with white sliced bread and chips available to keep fussy kids happy. The staff meet you at the airport, and escort you to the ferry on the other side of Male. If you want a luxury resort and fancy food this is not for you, however for value for money, lovely location right on the beach, great personal service, clean rooms, soft white sand, crystal clear water, and fun excursions this is great. We went with our 13 year old son

Room Tip: Some rooms are facing the beach, very handy but less private, some have windows, some dont

WhiteShell Beach Inn is paradise on earth : white sand beach, blue Indian Ocean, palm trees.
Good food, good drinks, very nice waiter : Nazrul.

BUT :

1) The beach is very dirty, dangerous (rusty tins, pieces of glass, cans...) and never cleaned.
2) No hot shower in some of the rooms.
3) Some staff members really need to check their behavior regarding the customers :( :
bad temper and bad answers :( which are not appropriate at all :(
with a lack of honesty... !!! :(

The Whiteshell Inn totally exceeded our expectations. Our room was modern, spotless and had a view that has to be seen to be believed.

This hotel is located on a local Maldivan island called Maafushi, being a local island means there is no alchahol available and women must cover their bodies even whilst swimming. But there are many advantages to staying on a local island, number one is the cost. The Whiteshell Inn cost a fraction of what resorts on surrounding islands cost. Also as a traveller you can wander around the island and see how Maldivan people live, you can go to the supermarket, hear the mosque call five times a day and see the general hustle and bustle of daily life. Unlike the island resorts which always gave me the feeling of being trapped in some sort of Disney land or Truman show. However staying at the Whiteshell you are also offered the possibility to sample the five star experience. Boat trips are arranged on request to visit expensive resorts where your bikini wearing and beer drinking needs can be indulged.

So to sum up, if you are an open minded traveller who would like to experience the Maldive's crystalline waters, white sands, endless sunshine, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful coral reefs I could recommend no better than the pretty Whiteshell Inn.
