“A Perfect Location”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Our family (2 adults & 2 kids 11 & 12) have just returned to QLD from our first trip to Melbourne and it was FANTASTIC!! Although we had initially thought we wanted to stay right in the heart of Melbourne, we made the right decision to stay at Quest on St Kilda Road and didn't regret it for a minute. We initially booked in for 7 nights, but then extended our stay to 11 nights & although we had to change rooms, there was no problem as Housekeeping did the whole move for us. Our view may have changed but the room was still quiet and comfortable. With the trams stopping just outside our apartment, we were very accessible to the city, St Kilda beach, Albert Park & all the many adventures we experienced. Our 2 bedroom apartment (serviced daily!) with a full kitchen was perfect for relaxing after long days and had everything necessary to prepare meals instead of always eating out. Heating in the unit was appreciated & If there had been electric blankets on the beds it would have been perfect!! Right from the start the staff were extremely helpful, cheerful & ready to answer any questions. We had an awesome time in a perfect location and would definitely recommend Quest on St Kilda Road to any visitors to Melbourne.

My family and I stayed at Quest on St Kilda Road for 7 days in a 2 bedroom apartment. The room was very clean and well kept. Service from the staff was excellent. The location is convenient and I can easily catch a tram to the city. There are a couple of good place to eat too. It was a pleasant stay and I would recommend it if you are looking for spacious apartment.

My husband and I stayed at Quest on St Kilda Road over the Easter weekend this year with our 3 year old son. Unfortunately on our last nights stay our son had an accident which resulted with him having a blood nose and putting his tooth through his gum. We were extremely impressed with the on call worker that night and felt the support and service she provided us with was outstanding. She was more than happy to find phone numbers for a doctor who did call outs, came to our room to see if there was anything else she could do to assist and offered to follow up with locations of hospitals if required. As we are not from Melbourne we had no idea where to start with getting this information and when she came to our room she was lovely and interacted with our son even in his distressed state.
Her assistance was greatly appreciated and at no time did we feel we were inconveniencing her which we have felt when calling someone on call at other places we have stayed. We were really impressed the accommodation and all your staff members.
This is a very clean, modern, tidy accommodation that is a great home away from home. We were that impressed we came home and booked accommodation at this location again for a couple of months time. Would recommend Quest on St Kilda road to everyone!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment.

Firstly, Quests are franchised, so not all experiences are the same between them, however standards SHOULD be the same. My understanding is that each unit is privately owned, but managed by Quest.

Having stayed at a Quest previously, I felt that this would be a safe bet, and it's location for the F1 Grand Prix was absolutely ideal.

We had 4 of us (2 couples) staying. Staff on the phone were friendly when booking at that went without a hitch.

The rooms appeared fine on face value, and our 2 bedroom apartment was okay, but nothing to gush about. With some work though, it could be an EXCELLENT choice for people in the area.

So where to start:
1. Multiple light globes blew, and blew again.
2. A REALLY wierd bathroom setup means if someone is having a bath or shower, the toilet can't be used easily.
3. No curtains (but signs of a curtain rod brace) in the main area (if kids were on the sofa beds in main area anyone could look in).
4. The TV died after heavy rain and only ABC would work.
5. The front of the oven was falling off.
6. Tears in both lounges.
7. Marks on the walls.
8. Laminate coming off kitchen drawers.
9. A single steak knife (lucky all 4 off us didn't have steak one night).
10. On numerous occassions had to ask for extra toilet rolls.
11. At 2am one of the downlights sparked and died tripping the safety switch!
12. Road noise, road noise, and more road noise!

OUR MAIN GRIPE:
1. Office hours are, well, whenever staff decide to work. If it's quiet they knockoff early, so if you need help you have to call the onsite manager, and cop a $60 call out charge.

...........

The problems aren't huge, but they add up to a really average stay, which is disappointing because I honestly thought better of the Quest brand / name.

Rather than definitely staying at another Quest establishment, this will have me second guessing a choice to book with another Quest in the future.

That said, most of the problems are able to be fixed, and with some TLC and decent amount of work, it could become a very decent accommodation option for that area.

Don't stay here!
Dirty & smelly rooms. Lights in the bathroom did not work, we went to reception and told them about it, as we were heading out for tea. They were "meant" to get the maintenance guy to come & investigate. Upon returning from our night out nothing had been fixed. We had to shower and use the toilet in the dark! The sofas & carpet were dirty, the room had a terrible odour about it! Would NEVER stay there again. Must mention I have stayed at other Quest apartments and never had any problems.

i recently found myself down in melbourne again for work, staying in accommodation not of my choosing. i make that distinction because i would not choose to stay at the quest on st kilda road. there are many "quests" in melbourne - i think there are four in st kilda alone. depending on what sort of accommodation you're after, they tick alot of boxes.

i like serviced apartments. i like having the bedroom separate to the living area. i like having a kitchen. i can't say i'm an expert on "quest" but i've checked out alot of their apartments on-line so have an idea about what's on offer.

whether it's work or play, they're offering simple accommodation. it's not flash - there are no luxuries. but it all works and suits a purpose.

some people think this is well situated - i don't. i'm not a fan of staying on main traffic arteries. good for transport? so what. i'd rather be off the main road and have to walk for five minutes. it's at the top of fitzroy st, meaning you'll have to walk at least five minutes before you get anywhere near shops. there's nothing around it, apart from traffic. so for me, the first impression is not a good one. it's not welcoming in any way.

i make these points because i also stayed at the quest st kilda bayside. it was tucked down the quiet streets a few minutes walk from fitzroy street, surrounded by trees. it was welcoming, but that's another review.

my other concern with this quest was the noise factor. not from the street, but the guests. i have to confirm what other people have noted - that the design of the interior atrium serves to act as a noise tunnel. it's all brick and concrete, so any talking or other noise is easily heard. when i opened the door to the apartment, i was immediately heartened - the corridor was long. "good" i thought - the bedroom will be down the other end. but no, the bedroom was the first room in, with it's window directly onto the outside corridor.

i have to say i find that a strange choice - having the bedroom closest to the noise.

i remember during check-in seeing many different warnings about keeping noise to a minimum. st kilda being st kilda will always attract a certain guest interested in the night-time festivities down the street, so people returning boisterously late at night was always on the cards and it proved no different this time around.

but in the interest of fairness, this won't be a constant. it would be unfair to infer that this happens all the time because it's just a lottery. the apartment itself was fine, except for the shower - quite possibly the worst water pressure i've ever had anywhere. the shower itself was also a deep bathtub, almost akin to japanese in design. i have to say it was tricky getting in and out. it would definitely have proved difficult for someone a little older or near impossible for someone with any type of mild disability.

so at the risk of stereotyping, i'd say this particular quest would suit if you're in your early to mid-twenties traveling with a friend or group of friends and you're really just looking for somewhere to stay. if you're a family, i'd suggest there might be a more suitable alternative.

Our first impression was not great. We arrived at 1:45pm hoping our room would be ready but it wasn't. We got the call to say the room was ready at 2:45pm (check-in is from 2).
I was asked by a heavily pregnant woman about our room, as they were still waiting for theirs at 3pm and had been told it could still be another hour.

The building exterior and lift give a run-down impression. The parking is underground and safe, but is $15/day which obviously adds to the price of your stay as there is definitely no street parking close by.

The rooms in our 2 BR apartment were clean, beds and linen comfortable, kitchen well-equipped, and lounge area big enough. Our apartment faced Fitzroy St but was quiet due to double glazing.

There was not enough bathroom linen but that was remedied. The bathroom was clean but the shower suffered from mould and could do with an update. The washing machine was the same model as the one we replaced at home about 10 years ago, it was very temperamental and left marks on clothes.

The staff I encountered were friendly and polite.
There was one time soon after check-in that the lift had been blocked by a high pile of cleaning equipment and linen and so the lift was unaccessible to guests. There is only one lift and 4 levels, not good enough especially for those with limited mobility. I was fortunate enough to be able to use the stairs.

My husband enjoyed the gym and we all enjoyed the location. CLOSE to the city and close to the heart of St Kilda (a long walk to Acland St and Luna Park, but achievable nonetheless). Right across the road is a park leading to another park that has a playground. And right near Albert Park for the fitness fanatics to enjoy a lakeside jog.

Room Tip: 2 bedroom apartment was spacious- we brought our own port-a-cot and it fit in both bedrooms so we co...
