Stayed here for 2 nights with a friend and we really enjoyed our stay. It was clean, located greatly in St Kilda, nice staff and there was two computers in the lounge for you to use. A great stay but a bit pricey maybe.
Would be returning!More
I kind of like the walk to and from St Kilda beach. For some it may be out of the way though. It's not located in a place that you can step out quickly for a quick coffee, but it's in a great position to find places like Galleon!
The room was pleasant and comfortable. TV was far too high up to be comfortable watching.
Our stay was interrupted by people who had been locked out of their adjacent apartment. The hotel must have allowed them access to climb the walls. That was ok but the girl kept looking into our room and the guy was arrogant - not the hotels fault, but worth mentioning. Personally I'd be asking people allowed on the premises to be considerate of others who have paid for the right to be there.
On the whole it's a good hotel.
Hi Iain G,
Thanks for taking the time to review our hotel.
Sorry to hear about your noisy neighbours - very frustrating. I wonder if you spoke to a staff member? We always welcome feedback from our guests and endeavor to help in the best way we can.
I’m really glad to hear you found your room pleasant and comfortable. How great are the Urban Snorer beds!
Thanks again and we hope to see you again soon.
I chose to stay at this Hotel while attending training at the nearby Novotel in St Kilda. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor I decided against staying at the Novotel and heading to Hotel Urban instead. Check in was average - not a very happy pair on the desk. When we arrived in our room I was a little disappointed. It is a very old building which has been modestly renovated. The bathroom was quite old and the room itself very small and plain.
I made my booking through Wotif for a summer package which included a platter and do-it-yourself cocktail each day. When we arrived the cocktail was there but no platter. After calling reception, a very small plain platter of a few olives, a bit of ham and salami and semi-dried tomato was delivered. Not even a cracker or slice of cheese in sight.
There was a small mini bar selection around the room but no price or indication of what was included or what was to be purchased.
After our first night, we left our room at 8am (placing the please make up my room sign on the door) only to return at 4pm to find it had not been serviced. After calling reception again, we were advised that they had a lot of check outs and would service our room as soon as they could. Upon returning from dinner, our bed had been made, a bin emptied and that was it. Our left over platter was still sitting in the room, tea cups and glasses not washed, and no platter or cocktail (which was supposed to be part of our package) was delivered. Only some of our toiletries were replaced and we were never provided with body lotion which is unusual for a boutique hotel.
From early morning to late afternoon there was a lovely sound of jack-hammers. There was supposedly room service but I'm not sure how we were to know about that. Upon check-out I was advised that this information was on a magnet board in the room - which it wasn't.
I have stayed in many luxury and boutique hotels and this is not one of them.
Hi Adelaide T,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Hotel Urban St Kilda.
Firstly, I apologise about the staff experience and I can assure you this is not the usual welcome that we normally pride ourselves on giving to our guests. It sounds like I need to have a chat to the team to ensure this doesn't happen again.
The 19th February was right in the middle of our huge refurbishment (which is why things got a little noisy) so we are the first to agree that our lobby and outlets were not in their best shape. Now that everything is complete, we'd love for you to come in and check out our new look - we're over the moon with how it's all turned out!
Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to get the chance to welcome you at our hotel again one day.
We only stayed here for one night, but our room was lovely and clean. Bed was nice and comfy.
The staff were very friendly and Andrew in reception made check in very easy. Thank you for the friendly smile and outstanding service.
The coffee is delicious and the location is one of the best for eating and roaming around St.Kilda.
We would recommend this place highly.
Thanks for your lovely review!
So glad to hear you loved our coffee and comfy beds. There’s nothing better than a great night’s sleep and waking up to a delicious, freshly brewed coffee!
I’ll make sure I pass on your feedback to Andrew about your check in experience, he will certainly appreciate that.
Thanks again and we hope to welcome you at our hotel again soon.
I stayed with family on this property for three nights. We had booked online and the pics looked good.
The location.. Has a buzz more so in the evenings with some good cafés, and bistro dining just there , with a pretty good variety of eats.On Vday in particular the fitzroy strip was happening..
Commuting to the city etc was easy as the connections and station are just outside as is the possibility of being picked up by a shuttle bus to the airport for a mere 30odd bucks for two..
The staff... Was courteous and helpful
So far all good..
Housekeeping.. Not so good. Replenishing water, clean glasses, general tidying and bed making , sweeping of the carpets..bathrooms etc. left a lot to be desired..
The deck and Jim.. We'll if that's what you want to call them!
The views.. None.. Did request a upgrade but got got no revert.
The hub was down for maintenance so could not test the goodies we'd read about..
But the biggest irritant.. Being woken up by this pretty loud knocking at 8 am asking if we needed housekeeping done n that too after we heard the door click open to check whether there was anyone inside the room..not done!
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience at our hotel.
I’m happy to hear you thought our lovely staff were courteous and helpful - we do pride ourselves on looking after our guests plus having a great rapport with everyone.
How great is our location! It’s always buzzing and has such a fun yet relaxed vibe.
Sorry you weren’t satisfied with housekeeping and I’ll make sure I have a chat to the team to ensure things are up to scratch.
Thanks again for your comments.
This is a good little hotel that's right in the heart of the action in St Kilda. The room was quite small, but it was a comfortable and functional for what we wanted, which was a hotel close to bars, restaurants (on Fitzroy st and Acland st) and mainly the beach. It's probably not ideal for couples who want to spend alot of time in the room as it's quite squeezy!
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a King's size room. Our air-conditioning wasn't working on the first evening and the staff offered to assist us and even offered us to change rooms if it still wasn't working. Our only complaint was that the housekeeping was a bit sloppy (didn't clean our rooms daily, and didn't replenish our water), but only minor.
All in all a comfortable and convenient stay.
Thanks so much for taking the time to review our hotel.
St Kilda is all about the beach, bars and bands so it’s great to hear you experienced our vibrant location for what it’s renowned for and took advantage of our location in the heart of it all.
Glad to hear you had a comfortable stay and we hope to welcome you again next time you visit Melbourne.
