Fantastic beds, very quiet room ( at rear). The receptionist was exceptional ( bright red hair, sorry don't know her name). Great value, would definitely stay there and recommend it to other travellers.

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and really helpful at the front desk. The rooms are a good size. Very clean and I thought value for money considering the location, presentation and cleanliness. So central to the beach and St Kilda. Very positive experience. I was travelling alone but would bave been very good for couples and groups.

Room Tip: I had a room on the opposite side to Fitzroy St. It was so quiet, but I imagine others would be fin...

If you like something a little left of mainstream, yet polished in presentation and offering style & class, this is a must to visit.

The refurb and decor are modern but unpretencious through the bar, the adjoining restaurant, the funky foyer and hallways.

I had both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant where the menu was also different from the norm... very creative indeed; and delicious to boot.

The location speaks for itself, positioned near the beach end of Fitzroy St, and offering undercover secure parking.

Lots more for you to discover at the Urban, but go there and enjoy some more of the surprises for yourself!

Hi Linda O,

What a fantastic review!! Thanks so much, it's always nice to hear that our guests have an appreciation for our designer style and extra little touches to make their stay more than a usual hotel experience.

Our menu at Hub sure is delicious, and gets great reviews from the locals, foodies and guests alike. Did you get a chance to try the sweet corn fritters? Our recently opened Mavis Browns is also a great spot to unwind and enjoy a drink and canapes after a busy day of work or play.

Our friendly team hope to welcome you again soon Linda O.

Booked this online after reading reviews. Check in was esy and staff were friendly. When the elevator doors opened we were taken aback but loved the decor, very unexpected. We had a room at the back of the hotel. Room was average size and the urban snorer beds were great. Slept very well until the bins and laundry started banging early in the morning! But a hotel has to operate, even while we sleep.
Surprised to find only one chair in a double room, meant one of us had to always sit on the bed.
Bathroom was large but fixed shower screen over bath made it hard to get to taps when hot water streams out, and also wets the floor. Would also help if shower lever showed which way to twist for hot or cold. It was a 50/50 chance of getting scalded the first time I used it.
We enjoyed breakfast downstairs at the Hub, and listening to live music at the bar in the afternoon.
Location is great with plenty of choice of eateries close by and the trams running past the front door. Beach is a short walk as is all St Kilda's attractions.
Apart from a couple of minor problems highlighted we loved our stay and would definitely stay again and recommend to our friends

URBAN HOTEL – FITZROY STREET – ST. KILDA
Booked easily on line. Check in 2pm and as we were a little early was able to leave our luggage whilst we went for lunch.
Rooms as described, comfortable beds with nice sheets and pillows. Large bathroom with luxurious toiletries by EVO, which I am going to buy online when I get back to UK.
If you are a light sleeper or do not want to get up early please ask for a room which is not at the back of the hotel - these overlook the yard where the dustbin men arrive early. The laundry van noise is the worst as they have to move the laundry carts over the raised runner used to close the back gate.
What we really objected to was the payment for WIFI – we were offered a special price of $50 for the week – as we payed nearlly $1100 to stay in this hotel thought it would be good customer service to offer this as part of the price. Yes there is a free Apple computer in reception but this is a very public place and with people sat in this area do not want to write blogs and emails from there. We have now stayed in 4 hotels during this Australia trip and this is the first one where we have been asked to pay for internet.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room which overlooks the back yard - was very noisey early some mornings.

Hi Jeera27,

Thanks so much for taking the time to post your review. We're glad to hear you enjoyed our delicious smelling Evo haircare products. We love to surprise our guests with little extras such as this, our Slow Down Slippers and Tie Me Up Tightly robes.

We're so sorry to hear that you experienced some unwanted noise during your stay, it's a shame that our friendly staff didn't have the opportunity to see if another more suitable room was available. We will also consider your comments regarding WIFI charges too.

We hope you enjoyed your time 'down under' Jeera27 and thanks again for your comments.

Great location. You can catch a tram to the city right out front-takes about 10mins. We got the round room with double spa bath. It wasn't as big as I had hopes but it was lovely anyway. It had a separate shower and toilet. The bath was huge and you can lay in the bath and watch tv-also fits two fully grown adults! No veiw from any of the hotel rooms which is a shame but its what you get ikn st kilda. Close to the pier and local restuarants. Try Banf just a short walk up Fitzroy St for breakie and dinner. Great pizza there and cheap as chips. Dont bother with the room service or the Hub restuarant downstairs as it's a rip off and too overpriced. We paid $250 for the round room per night and for a special occasion and if you want to stay in St Kilda is was worth it but next time we will go somewhere in the city with a view. Reception was quick too and the hotel lifts are preety cool. Urban snorer beds are really comfortable and i liked the touch of the really nice shampoos and conditioners and bath robes. Would be the best in St Kilda for sure.

Hi Kazunts,

Thanks for choosing to stay at Hotel Urban for your special occasion. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the round room and it's super large spa bath as well as the slightly quirky designer touches to our hotel.

We're always trying to think of little ways to make our guest's stay more than a regular hotel experience, it sounds like you really appreciated our complimentary Evo hair care products and Tie Me Up Tightly robes.

Sorry to hear that you weren't impressed by the prices at Hub. We do like to keep our prices reasonably competitive for the local area, but also pride ourself in offering dishes that use fresh and seasonal ingredients too, but will definitely keep your feedback in mind when we next update our delicious menu.

Thanks for the review Kazunts.

James Muscat

Good location near St Kilda beach front, in a shopping strip with tram stops. Many bars and restaurants at the beach end.
The hotel entrance is a single door on the street then a short corridor to the lobby.
Very efficient and friendly check-in. We were able to move in early.
The elevators have the most creative internal decor we've seen. Check out both. (See photo.)
The room was a reasonable size fitted with most of the expected facilities: QS bed (very comfortable), suitcase rack, stocked fridge, safe, coffee/tea maker, clock/radio, safe, iron and board. Muted decor: off-white and two shades of grey.
Being on a high floor level and near the back, our room was both very quiet and
had city views of Melbourne. It had windows on both sides.
Additional furniture included a large office desk and chair, with free WiFi/internet. No space for lounge chairs.
Good HD TV with both digital FTA and analog Foxtel. Full airconditioning.
Newspaper delivered every morning. (Request this when checking in.)
The bright bathroom has almost everything including a retractable clothes line. (So many other hotels no longer have this useful little feature.)
There is a narrow glass shelf instead of a benchtop. OK, but nowhere to safely store the hair dryer.
So, is anything missing?
In the bedroom we missed a second suitcase rack and a small bedroom chair. The bed lights needed to be brighter for reading.
In the bathroom there are no towel rails near the wash basin or bath/shower.
Really also need another wide rail to hang both of those huge bath towels. We wouldn't need to change them every day.
No safety grab rail near the bath. The fixed shower screen made it a little awkward to pre-check the water temperature.
A couple of coat hooks inside the entrance would have useful.(Very few hotel rooms have these!)
The WiFi connection is a pain. You need to login manually every time with a long code. If you have multiple tabs in your browser, many of them will be overwritten. (I shouldn't complain - it IS free.) Once logged-in, all is OK. There are also a couple of internet stations with a printer in the lobby.
Other facilities:
Breakfast/lunch is available in the hub cafe next to the lobby. Sugar Bar in the evenings.
There is a small gym and sundeck, and conference room.
Undercover parking available on level 1.
Trams to the city: 16 and 96. 3a in weekends. Also 112 on a separate line opposite the hotel.
In spite of my nitpicking, I would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, avoid overlooking the street.

Wow what a comprehensive review, thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts, like us, it sounds like you are a real details person.

We're glad to hear that you enjoyed our super location – conveniently located with transport, restaurants, bars, the beach and shopping right on our doorstep. It also sounds like you enjoyed our designer flair – we love to think a little bit outside the square when it comes to décor that is more than your usual hotel style.

We have taken a note of your recommendations and will be sure to consider them when next making improvements.

Thanks again jdandim, we hope to see you again soon.
