Great slow river cruise down the Murray on a paddle boat. Local wildlife on the river banks. Great commentary by Lance.

Lock 11 is important in the context of the River Murray, as a major lock controlling the flow of water, and as a physical barrier which must be negotiated when cruising down the river.

You go through it when you take a cruise on the PS Melbourne.

When you're in the cruise, it's interesting to see how the lock works.

The lock is surrounded by a pleasant public park, where you could go for a stroll or take picnic. If you're lucky, you might see a river craft negotiate the lock while you're there.

Is this a tourist attraction? I suspect it's something to look at while you're in the vicinity. Unless this kind of thing is especially fascinating to you, I wouldn't make a special trip.

We have a interest in the river Murray and lie to check out which side of the lock has the most water on it! Victoria won again!! Always a nice area to visit - well maintained an always a treat to watch a boat go through.

Absolutely fantastic....a must do. The cruise on the P.S. Melbourne was great as well and the captain's commentary was excellent.

Lock 11 is an important lock on the Murray. It is surrounded by a lovely green park with benches, and it's fascinating to watch as the paddle steamers and other boats come chugging round the river bend to approach the lock, then bob about in the lock as the water level changes to allow them to pass to the rest of the river. It's educational for the children to watch, and there is plenty of bird life on the foreshore here. Shade - there are some large trees but there isn't any other shade. It is possible to access Lock Island from here, which makes for a pleasant walk under the trees surrounded by water. There is ample parking, and wheelchair access. It's definitely worth a visit.
