“Dismal rooms”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We took a 3 night Indulgence Package which included breakfasts and dinner at Stefanos Restaurant plus some vouchers and picnic hamper. Sounded great. We arrived at front of a the hotel. Unloaded our luggage and took into Reception. No porter at that time. In fairness there was one shortly after. Weather was cold, So was Reception. The gas fireplace was not on, nor was it for our three days. Reception area large and had sofas with potential to be comfortable but wasn't inviting due to coldness. On asking I was told fireplace didn't work. We went to room which was described as the pick of rooms. Room 50. It had balcony with 2 chairs overlooking pool and window overlooking rose garden. Sound nice? The pool setting backdrop is the back of the pub. The rose garden we glimpsed at. Really that view was the back of the motel type rooms. The room itself was tired and basic, consisting of a sitting room with a couch and TV and air con plus bedroom with TV. It just didn't cut it, the description didn't fit. No privacy with curtains open. So we asked to see other rooms and James showed us willingly. The tower room was difficult to access due to stairs like a lighthouse so we didn't go up. It may have been great to be fair. Then the presidential suite. Massive. One window overlooking pool. Not pretty. Grubby carpet next to dining table. Smell of stale cigarette smoke. Bedroom was able to be closed off and big bathroom. But really just a big unappealing space. Calling it Presidential is a joke. The rooms seem to be arranged in a rabbit warren style as addtiions occurred. So we went back to Reception and asked for anything else. Were taken to Room 49. At least it was at the end of the upstairs long balcony. We could go outside and look over the rose garden. Separate sitting room with couch and table. Basic. Air con had an annoying rattle which maintenance did come and fix by wrenching it away from the wall a bit. He said the air cons had been there a while and needed replacing. Bedroom basic with air con which was ineffective to heat room. No electric blanket although there was a spare blanket. No full length mirror in room. Bathroom large with spa bath but I couldn't think of anything worse than soaking in that tub looking at the toilet. Ceiling light globe didn't work and maintenance man found it was wiring fused. No one ever came to fix it and it was a weekday. There was just no wow factor, or cosy factor in the rooms. You couldn't sit and relax in there. We've stayed in better 3 star rooms in Europe. Staff were friendly and obliging but if you haven't got much to work with.....? I'd be interested in what the refurbished rooms looked like, unless we were staying in one. While the location is great, there's a lot of other places to stay in Mildura. We left after three nights with our picnic hamper, which was lovely and headed back to Adelaide. We wouldn't stay again. The owners need to spend some serious money getting what could be a lovely hotel into the 21st century. Now the hotel restaurants are another story, very good. I'll review these in the restaurant review section.

Perfect spot to stay that's close to walking around town. Got a good nights sleep was all I need and breakfast was plenty. Staff were friendly and made us welcome. Mildura is a nice town to visit. We opted to leave our car and did most of it walking around town and took some tour options that pick up at motel I feel extremely relaxed now.

The room is spacious and clean. Good locality if you're a pub goer. I booked a room with a queen bed and a single, so it was like a 2 bedroom room - nice. Staff are friendly and Try their best, but room was cold and no hot water ( but currently being fixed) parking is across the road in a large carpark, which is bit of a walk if you have to take a bit of luggage with you, no lIfts. Room service was very average and pricey.
Two tv's, excellent bathroom, extra blankets thank god, small fridge and small balcony. Wouldn't recommend for families, but great for singles

i suppose you get what you paid for. i stayed here about 2 yrs ago and opted for a more luxurious sounding room but this time a few things needed fixing. The bed seemed quite small and my partner and I were tossing around a lot to get comfy. The tv toyoda brand kept cutting out with its sound and the view of the car park woke me up each morning at about 630am due to a street sweeper. The buffet was still nice and the service still nice. I know for the future however to spend that extra bit of money to have a more comfortable stay

Very outdated bland rooms. They were clean enough, just not what I expected. I thought for the price they would have been a lot better. The breakfast was quite nice. Over all, I personally believe it was a rip off. I wouldn't pay that to stay there again.

The accommodation was good for the price but the television kept stopping access to channels I wanted to watch such as the ABC and had to be fixed remotely by the porter. I missed a few programs I really wanted to watch because of this and the problem didn't seem able to be fixed. Breakfast was excellent and all staff were very nice. Did not get wake up call on my last day which was frustrating.

Room Tip: You probably get a room with a view if you are able to pay more.
