“Just right for the night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

I have enjoyed many coffees on the glorious deck of Ferryman's, but wasn't expecting too much from dinner there. However, the atmosphere in the evening was low-key and relaxed and the chef's talents were complemented by charming wait staff. We had blue eye trevalla and schnapper from the specials menu, and they were spanking fresh. Accompaniments (including yummy sweet potato and leek mash) were generous and we didn't need side dishes to feel satisfied. Fortunately, we were greedy enough for dessert. The frangipani tart was outstanding, and the tiramisu appropriately luscious.

“Ok but Overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

Seafood platter was good (although some tasted like they had been frozen)

The pork fillets were terrible. The meat was dry and the potatoes tasted like they had been cooked in the microwave.

“Appalling meal”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2013

We were looking forward to this meal as an end to our 3 day stay in Lakes Entrance (married couple and a 4 y/o) but unfortunately we could not have chosen a worse venue. We ordered an entree each and of course a main each. Our 4 y/o had the fish and chips.

The skewer entree was uneventful but edible. The prawn cocktail entree was an absolute disaster. A glass jam packed with lettuce with about 3 prawns, a bit of salmon and coleslaw. All freezing cold and totally tasteless. KFC coleslaw is way better than this just for comparisons sake. At $18.00 for this garbage I felt insulted but when asked if everything was ok with the meal when the waitress collected the plates I restrained myself because everyone can have a bad dish.

When mains arrived the whole snapper looked average on the plate and, again, no flavour. The tastiest part of this dish was the boiled potatoes with salt. Again, at over $30.00 I felt like this was a joke.

On a positive note, our 4 y/o ate all her chips and most of the fish. Probably because she smothered everything in tomato sauce for flavour.

When asked how the meals were when the waitress collected the plates I stated that they were very poor and not enjoyable. She giggled and smiled, cleared the plates and walked off as if nothing was said.

The venue is in a nice spot but at night you don't go there for the view but for the meal.

As I said, everyone can have a bad dish but four in a row is a sign that the chef / venue does not care about quality or consistency if previous reviews are anything to go by. I know it is a 'cafe' but they make themselves appear as if they know how to cook the seafood that they catch, which was a selling point for us and the prices are not cafe prices.

When leaving I looked at the RSL across the road and wished we went there instead. If the food was bad there then at least I would I feel better knowing the money would be better off there than at a establishment not worthy of existing.

Good luck to all that visit, it couldn't get worse than my visit.

“Wonderful surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013 via mobile

By pure coincidence we found this cafe/Restaurant while walking to explore the area around our one night stay' hotel. We hopped for a quick salad and decided to reserve for the dinner and it was a very good choice!
Good view of the water with sunset, great seafood presented nicely and friendly staff with right wine and desert suggestions!
The whole atmospher felt family like and cosy! It was one of these evening that would stay in our memory!

“Good, not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

Excellent service, menu was very ambitious. Given the location I would have expected more simple fresh fish and seafood dishes. Ordered fish and chips, fish was lovely but chips were obviously pre-cut frozen and not good.
