“Ok but a bit tired”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

I have stayed here before and I can see that there has been effort to dress the place up but lets face it its a very old building and they have done the best that they can do with it.
Recpetion staff were pleasant and efficient recognised my Platinim status and offered a room upgrade.
Restaraunt staff although very pleasant appearred stretched to deal with the number of patrons

My wife and I spent 4 days at the Mercure.

This is the second time we’ve stayed here in the past 18 months.

We were in a refurbished standard queen room on the 3rd floor looking out over the hotel entrance. The room was very spacious and clean. It had two double beds, which were very comfy, a work desk, flat screen TV and mini bar.

The bathroom was large and spacious with a walk in shower.

Internet was expensive at $27.90 ($33.00 NZD) per 24hrs. There is complimentary WIFI in the lobby for 30 minutes per device per day. We found this to be a better option and it allowed us to do everything we needed to do on the internet each day.

We had a rental car and once again we didn't use the hotel parking option. We parked on the road outside the hotel, which we would recommend to others otherwise it is $18.00 per night.

All the hotel staff from the reception staff to the cleaning staff were friendly and very helpful.

Overall we had another enjoyable stay at the Mercure and we would happily stay here again

The hotel is in dire need of a facelift, the rooms albeit ok, are simply average, there are other establishments which are offering better comfort levels - and the final straw, you have to pay to park your car - this is not the middle of Melbourne or Sydney, its Geelong.

My Partner & I stayed here on a Friday night as we were heading off to explore the Great Ocean Road for the weekend. The accommodation was fairly average and the service underwhelming and the reception staff were surly - they were obviously doing us favour to let us stay in their hotel! On the night we stayed there was a function on downstairs which seemed to generate a lot of noise. We had a great view of the car park at the back of the building which we paid top rate for. On the following Monday we chose not to stay at this hotel and chose one closer to the waterfront.

Dear Juliafg

Thank you for your recent stay the Mercure Geelong.

We take pride in a high level of service at the Mercure and I apologise we feel short of the mark in your experience. Rest assured your feedback will assist us in preventing similar occurrences in the future.

Our goal is to ensure all guests have a great time at the hotel so it was especially disappointing to read of the circumstances around your departure.

Should you be passing through Geelong again, please contact me directly. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to restore your faith in the Mercure.

Kind regards

The room had a distinct smell to it that was not pleasant, we had to spray perfume in the room to improve its smell. The television remote was broken, it was missing it's cover to the batteries and proved difficult to use because it had trouble responding to the commands. The staff and service was exceptional. one staff member even gave my two girls a coloring sheet and pencils to keep them occupied during breakfast service. Overall the stay was good but not perfect.
