Have stayed at this place consistently over the past few years. Staff are always friendly and willing to offer any assistance. Have to admit that the last time we stayed our room was placed next to gym which was ok until someone went to the gym at 6.10am and turned radio on loudly. But to the Mercure's credit when we complained they switched us to another room no questions asked.

The Hotel is within walking distance of shops, cafes etc. My friend & I loved leaving the curtains open as the view was spectacular and that is how we retired watching the lights of Gelong.. Good value for money neat and tidy and staff very helpful as we had difficulty working out the operation of the TV.

We got this hotel for a good deal for two nights as Accor members. We got the privilege floor for a great price. Was disappointed that on arrival nobody helped us with our luggage or the trolley despite there being two guys on the desk when we arrived. The restaurant was lovely although breakfast was disappointing. The spa was freezing and in view of the restaurant which was a shame. Our coffee machine in our room wasn't working and it was quickly replaced. Although a paper was complimentary we weren't told on check in that we had to request one so missed out the first day. The second morning the paper disappeared before we got to it as did another one on the same floor but on this day they found us one. House keeping was not good, it looked like the teaspoons had been wiped over with a cloth as they still had coffee on them and the cups were the same. The shower was not cleaned and the bath gel although empty was not replaced until we requested some more. The restaurant staff were excellent and both meals we had were very enjoyable. It is of concern though that we realised that the credit surcharge on credit card payments was being calculated on the total bill not on the actual amount payable after discounts, this appears to be some sort of computer programming error which we did bring to the managers attention but most people probably don't take a lot of notice from and this could of been happening for a long time. It wasn't a lot of money but if every person is overcharged by a dollar or two it would definitely add up very quickly. Very limited range of television channels and extremely expensive parking for an open car park.

Room Tip: Don't pay for parking there is plenty on the street that you can use all night and is just as sa...

Dear JoJa17.

Thank you for your recent visit to the Mercure Geelong and updating your experience in Trip Advisor.

It was great to read your balanced review and while some comments were very pleasing, I sincerely apologise that we have let you down in other areas. We greatly value all guest feedback and there are number of issues we will improve on as a result of your comments.

As you noted we have a 1.5% surcharge on credit card payments. I apologise for any mix up however I can confirm that this charge is based on the final credit card transaction amount and only calculated at time of payment. The charge is only applied to credit cards and can be avoided with cash, debit or eftpos payments.

Thank you again, and should you allow us the opportunity to assist with your accommodation in the future, please contact myself directly. I would be more than happy to ensure a pleasant stay

Yours sincerely,

Phil O’Brien
