“Was in a hurry to get back ... but....!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

We went to Oscars for my partners birthday on a Friday lunchtime - was AMAZING. The atmosphere, the view, the cute little tables for 2 by the windows. We ate from the bar menu with bits of tapas and a small selection of main meals. I opted for the bruschetta & the pork belly from the tapas menu & he got the fish & chips. We both looooved our meals & the drinks that were on offer were great too. 3 weeks later we had friends come to stay so we thought the perfect opportunity to get back there ... even for the tapas & the sizes they could see coming out they were apprehensive about the prices. I assured them it was worth it. Unfortunately, this time it wasnt. I chose the duck won tons that were over cooked (deep fried to a crisp) & couldnt even taste any meat inside. We also ordered the chicken lollipops that we were unsure if they were cooked as well as they could have been. That 2nd experience has made me think I might not try here again for a while. Cannot fault the view though, but for the price and the inconsistency, next time I am in Echuca I might try somewhere else.

“Romance, great food and great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2013

The location is so nice and old fashioned, staff seated us outside overlooking the river for pre dinner drinks. The atmosphere is just so nice. We were seated inside overlooking the river. We had the fish of the day(Barramundi) which apart from being a little too juicy with the sauces was beautiful! Would happily recommend this place to anyone wanting an awesome meal in a great atmosphere

“Worth travelling for!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

I had the best meal of my life so far at this restaurant!

In a great spot, right on the Mighty Murray, under the gum trees, with flocks of cockatoos flying past the window and sitting in the branches right outside the windows. There are tables for two along the riverside-windows, so try to book one of these if you want a romantic dinner. (The restaurant was lively the Fri night we we there, but you probably don't need to book - just ask for a riverside table).

The staff were friendly & attentive. The food was amaaaaazing. I had to cobble together a vegetarian meal from the menu as there were no mains, but that was fine. I had a beetroot salad with caramelised walnuts, and Parisian mashed potatoes with truffle oil. My husband had the minute steak. We shared the poached pear with salted caramel ice cream afterwards.

Everything was a little bit surprising and absolutely delicious. I'm still remembering it very fondly. It would be worth travelling from Melbourne to Echuca just to eat here.

It also has a really good, award winning, wine list though we didn't try that out.

Do yourself a favour - drive out and stay the night. It was an extra bonus because we just wandered in there to escape the heat, not expecting the amazing meal.

Dinner for two without wine cost us about $92, which was quite reasonable.

“Terrific!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

We had been told that Oscar W's was the most expensive restaurant in town, and the only one with a river view. We wandered by around lunchtime and perused the redgum grill and deck bar menu. We were seated inside by the window overlooking the river and enjoyed the air conditioning on a very hot day. We were pleasantly surprised that the prices on the lunch menu were quite reasonable. We had a bottle of local Cape Horn sparkling Chardonnay ($38) which went down very easily. We ordered three small dishes, the zucchini flowers (3 of them to an order) stuffed with ricotta and tomato filling, tempura fried, and served with a lemony mayo ($12), grilled lamb ribs basted with bourbon BBQ sauce and served with an apple and fennel salad ($14), and a pork, poultry, and prosciutto terrine served with chutney and thin crispy bread thins ($10). All were delicious and was plenty of lunch for the two of us. All of our servers were friendly and efficient. We will definitely return to Oscar W's!

“Terrific spot for relaxed afternoon in Echuca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

We dropped in for casual coffee, attracted by the sun dappled courtyard and relaxed ambience on a hot summer day. We lingered for cold drinks and a substantial selection of their tapas style plates. We loved the interesting menu and thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered - the zucchini flowers were especially good, as was the pork belly. Loved the varied selection and how it was broken up into 'cured and crunchy salad things', 'hot and spicy snacks', 'crispy snacks' - something for everyone. Oscar W's was a very pleasant place to while away an Echuca afternoon. It was fairly pricey but this is reflected in the quality and service. Looking forward to my next visit.
