Owner description: The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

We loved the Port, and had seen the recent walkway installed to enable you to see it at its best on the internet. In fact it was one of the reasons that we put Echuca on our tour. Nowhere does it say there is a $14 charge to use it. What a rip off, didn't pay it and feel cheated that it isn't made clear in the guides.

Unfortunately the blacksmith was closed but did get to see the woodturner. Didn't seem to be as much there as when we have visited previously. Maybe because we had visited before and had children with us last time, but we seemed to walk through in a matter of minutes. The High Street shops seemed to all be cafes and spas. New visitors should take a trip on a paddle steamer or in a stagecoach.

We hadn't visited Echuca for quite some time, but have now become "regulars". The Port of Echuca has also come a long way. There are many eateries and places to visit and staff in the Port are always friendly and helpful. We always enjoy our time here.

Port of Echuca is one for a wander & Paddle Steam ride. Lovely to sit back and relax for a trip up the Murray, but the Discovery Centre is well over priced and definitely not worth it. Although their gift shop does have a number of items, low priced and from the local area.
