Owner description: The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

The river port is interesting with it's emphasis on opening up the country to inland stations and the river paddle wheelers are worth a ride.

As Local residents we decided to check out the newly opened Discovery centre on the Port. We were blown away by the wonderful display showing how the Port operated so long ago. There are visual and animated displays that the children will love. The fabulous boardwalk takes you on an amazing story of the life on the river.A wonderful learning experience for all. You can watch the paddle steamers as they carry passengers along the great Murray River..Then you can join them for a wonderful cruise.. Not to be missed if visiting Echuca.

As a local I love taking visitors down to the Port of Echuca so I was so pleased to visit the newly opened Discovery Centre as part of the Port Experience. What a valuable asset to the region! Facilities are now 1st class making it much easier for the general public and enthusiasts of all ages to absorb the history on display. The new walkways give greater access to the wharf and offer great river views. My favorite experience of cruising along the river on our beautiful paddle steamers is so relaxing and a must for steam engine buffs. If you have the time I definitely recommend taking the Heritage Package and visiting the Great Aussie Beer Shed (not just about beer), Holden Museum and more. What amazing collections! Sure to bring back a few memories... Enjoy!

I have visited Echuca and its Port many times and never tire of it. It is alive and with wonderful history. I cannot wait till the Interpretive Centre opens and it just gives me another excuse to come back to Echuca. And another excuse to ride on the Paddlesteamer "Emmy Lou" which is the best experience of the Port itself. Just love it!!!

We ambled through the various shops including the woodwork, fudge shop and the cellar door and the Port shop. It was wonderful to see things how they were all those years ago. We plan on taking our children back when the Interpretive Centre opens later this year. We found it disappointing that we couldn't get onto the main wharf without paying an additional cost and were limited to a small deck of about 2 x 3m. We booked a cruise on the PS Emmylou and had a beautiful lunch while cruising up river. Well worth it. Nothing beats the sound of a paddle steamer whistle amongst the river gums.
