We visited GPO, on a Saturday night. We just went to have coffee and use the wifi, so we were seated in the mezzanine level. It was away from the chatter of other people and generally very pleasant. The ladies toilets were very clean and easy to access. The coffee was reasonable, though maybe a bit bitter... The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the GPO has a great atmosphere. Would visit again.m

Perhaps it was timing, but our first impressions still haunt us. It was quite busy granted. We had to wait outside the restaurant for our table to be ready as there was no where to stand inside. We had a three month old baby hence a pram, so were probably not very popular patrons to begin with. Once we got to our table, our chairs were knocked every time anyone wanted to pass to go to toilets or waiting staff needed to get to kitchen. The service was poor, food and coffees were cold once we got them. We have not been back. Maybe it was just a bad day for us to visit.

Mid Saturday afternoon - killing time after arriving in Bendigo and getting organised for a few days stay at Tourist Info office across the road. Footpath dining - watching the world go by - ordered Charcuterie plate and Pork Belly tapas between us washed down with a NZ sauvignon blanc. Well prepared and presented plates - food was wonderful, service cheerful and non intrusive - wine excellent. Highly recommended

Our group of girlfriends nearly always choose GPO for our catch ups. The food is always yummy, service is very friendly and its a nice atmosphere.
My only criticism is a picky one - their latest menu has a lot of spelling/grammar mistakes! It's my pet peeve!

Eight or ten years ago, the GPO opened its doors in Bendigo's main strip - not surprisingly, opposite the grand old former GPO building. It soon became one of Bendigo's fine eating places- stylish-casual with great food and reasonable prices. As then-Bendigo residents we made it a regular dining spot.

Now having moved from the area, but back in Bendigo last Friday we thought we'd give it try again. Now with a new Spanish menu influence (and 'tapas' floating around in their signage, it still ticks most of the boxes.

We shared four of the tapas plates (only the chorizo was a little disappointing from the point of view of size, not taste). Presentation of each dish, which came out on a small wooden platter, was very good. Taste was superb. We then moved onto two mains - the calamari, and the pork belly bites at around $15 each - just spot on.

Daily 'specialties' are available in addition to an extensive menu... but why was their Friday special - tacos, a steal at $5 - NOT available in the dining room - which really is an extension of the more casual eating area at the front anyway - strange (perhaps those in the dining room can't stand the sight of hot cheese dribbling down diners' faces?)

Service from the young waiting staff was good and knowledgeable. Wine prices are getting up there, but the house red - a Spanish one, curiously, with the name Elephantine on the label but a picture of a red bull on the cap - was good drinking at about $30 - our lunch bill came to $95 or so for the above plus one coffee.

We've always enjoyed dining at the GPO - we still do.
