An authentically restored Victorian Hotel found in the centre of historical Ballarat. Beautiful rooms, wrought iron queens size bed, fantastic French inspired restaurant, great wine list, quality toiletries, valae parking and an Edwardian styled public bar with friendly bar folk.Only downer was the wreched pokies that took away its elegance and charm.
By the way it also has a resident ghost (best ask management which room to book or avoid).

Look forward to a return visit.

Loved my time at Craig's Royal Hotel (Prince Albert Suite), especially the majestic 'Roman' bathroom :) I felt like an absolute princess! Was quite expensive, but assume that this is due to the cost of the upkeep of the hotel (if not then I'm a bit disappointed with the cost of the rooms). It also would have been nice to have something in the rooms which told a little history not only about the hotel, but also the room itself. E.g. The room was frequented by xxx, and at one stage the Duke of Edinburgh stayed in this very room'. There is so much history in the hotel but it felt like it was being ignored or overlooked, and let's face it, most people who holiday in Ballarat are history buffs. There must be some pretty amazing stories, especially from the Gold Rush time. Would have also been nice to see some souvenirs from the hotel, it's such a prestigious hotel, I would've loved to have purchased something to show off to people where I stayed (something like theHarrods 'green vinyl' bag of London, or the similar QVB bags in Sydney). I feel the restaurant let the hotel down, it is quite modern compared to the rest of the hotel, and quite chilly on a Winter morning. I would have much preferred to have been sitting beside a log fire, surrounded by antiques :P I also thin the tv's are pretty archaic, they could definitely do with an upgrade to a flat screen. Oh and I wish the fireplaces worked, is hard to see an empty fireplace on a cold winter's morning!

Room Tip: The royal suites overlook the theatre and one of the main streets of Ballarat (though very quiet).

My wife and I had a lovely time at this gem of a property. The room fitout was gorgeouse and the service excellent! Only downside was the pokie machines on the ground floor which kind of took away from the ombiance of the place.

Room Tip: Ask for the Prince Albert Suite

We stayed at Craig's for one night last Sunday with my sister and brother in law. I booked way back in January for two superior deluxe rooms and unfortunately, the rooms we booked were right at the very end of the corridor and directly above and below one another. They were comfortable and very quiet but then again there were very few guests staying at the hotel on Sunday night.

We asked on checkout, why our rooms were so far away from reception and we were told that that was where those two rooms were situated - one above the other! As we were paying top dollar and not going through one of the discount sites, we did wonder why they hadn't upgraded us to the next level so that we wouldn't have so far to walk especially as once leaving the main area of the hotel, the passages were freezing cold!

Our room was comfortable though not huge with a lovely king size bed, a table and two chairs and a big wardrobe. Unfortunately, the only way to watch the TV was to get into bed which is a bit strange at 8pm! The bathroom was white marble with a bath and lovely fittings but there really wasn't anywhere to put your toiletries. Both rooms had windows though they overlooked other buildings. The air conditoning was very quiet and the bed was fantastic.

We booked in for the 3pm afternoon tea which was delightful with a hot sausage roll, a piece of fritata, 3 sandwiches, great scones, jam and cream and small pastries served with pots of tea. We commenced with a glass of Yellowglen sparkling wine. We felt it was good value for $49 p.p.

After our afternoon tea we did do a walk around Ballarat but as it was freezing cold we returned to the hotel and found that the only place to sit and read was in the area between the Bar and the Bistro. Unfortunately, the hotel has used all its available space, where the lounges used to be, for the pokies and if you happen to walk in that area, it is most depressing to see so many people sitting in front of the machines.

We decided to have a small pasta each in the Bistro before going to our rooms for the night. The food was good and was just enough. The Continental breakfast next morning was a bit disappointing but at least our pot of tea was hot which is so important.

We loved the ols fashioned lift which brought back many memories of how the lifts used to be in the older buildings in Melbourne.

The staff were very friendly and looked after us well.

Beautiful charming hotel right in the centre of Ballarat. We had a smaller king room which was just fine for our stay on this occasion. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The history of the hotel is amazing and the old elevator (which is still in working order) is fantastic. The staff were fantastic and couldn't help enough.

There was only one down side. The room was a bit smaller than expected so once the suitcases were unpacked things were a bit crowded. I'm glad that we had a window in the room. The Ensuite is wonderful however there is limited room for toiletries and makeup and often things ended up all over the floor.

Our room which was at the back of the hotel was a little journey to get to. We had to go up and down a few sets of stairs so just be warned if you have a few pieces of luggage. When leaving I had to make a couple of trips to get my luggage downstairs as the elevator was out of action and I couldn't carry everything in one go. Luckily a couple of the housekeeping ladies were on their way out and gave me a hand to carry everything downstairs. Again the staff are excellent and so helpful.

The Continental Breakfast (which was included with our accommodation) was very good and very convenient.

Overall we would definitely choose this hotel again when we return to Ballarat.

Room Tip: Just from a luggage perspective try and get a room that isn't at the back of the hotel. It real...

This very nice old hotel, has all the luxury of modern day.
Lovely rooms, with en suite bathrooms that have all the things you might need.
Great beds! Especially the ones with the great canopy beds.
The breakfast is a bit on the small side, just a buffet.
The staff is very nice.
The original lift-elevator is a time piece!
They will help you with parking your car.
