Description: Our grandfather Frank was a well-known Blacksmith in the Ballarat region, and at the heart of a Blacksmith's shop is a fire they call the Forge. With a combination of the fire, great skill and plenty of hard work, great things are created. Take a look at our wood fire oven and you'll know why we are "The Forge". Established in 2010 by brothers Chris and Tim Matthews, The Forge Pizzeria creates delicious woodfired pizzas made with fresh local produce and high quality deli ingredients. We pride ourselves on pizza perfection, passion and a fun laid-back atmosphere. There is a fully serviced 200 seat restaurant in Armstrong Street, Central Ballarat, which complements the 20 seat take-away store in Sturt Street, Alfredton. We also now have two rolling mobile pizza ovens which operate at various events and private functions. Once your pizza is ordered, its action a plenty. Using our fresh healthy dough recipe, the stretcher starts stretching the base, great viewing in itself. The makers add the right amount of ingredients, which have all been freshly prepared on our premises, into the woodfire oven and then the magic happens. Fresh, healthy and woodfired.

“I want the pizza dough recipe... Please?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

We took the Family here for dinner last Tuesday night and the pizza was great and so was the service.
The dough on the pizza was to die for. It was so light and was a highlight. The toppings were quality and not over done, quantity wise either. but in saying that i do not like pizzas overloaded with to many or to much toppings... unless its cheese. Lol.
They had a great local beer and wine selection, with a good choice of different micro brewery's that weren't main stream. There wasn't a lot of pasta selection, but it is a pizzeria not a Italian restaurant. We had the pumpkin salad, a pulled pork pizza, the what i would call a margarita with olives and hot salami and a hawaiian (for the kids). We then shared two dessert pizzas being a honeycomb one with ice cream on top and a strawberry's and white chocolate. It is a little pricey but you do get what you pay for. The only down side is they have a few long tables which when they are busy you can end up sitting with strangers... Not something I would like for the cost?

“Great food. Sensational.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

Delicious Pizzas were served on timber boards. I chose a "Blacksmith" tonight and was not disappointed! Great flavours, generous topping of real meats and cheeses! Yum!
Went on a Friday trying our luck for a table. (generally Ballarat is busy on Fridays) and was offered seats at the large communal table. Other couples there were enjoying share plates and delicious pizzas, too.
Great rustic atmosphere (not cringe-worthy in any way).
Wait staff very friendly. Wine list emphasised local wines. Perfect!
I look forward to another meal at "The Forge" soon.

“Food should taste good and service should be brilliant.... You will find that here!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

After a dreadful experience at a business around the corner... It was a delight to return to what feels like home... Good traditional food at good traditional prices... Thank you for a wonderful experience. We are guilty of not being loyal to what we know as good quality people... Please forgive us and always treat us like family...

“"Nothing special here...Take my Advice"”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2013

I cant quite understand what the excite is all about with pizza from the Forge...Its nothing special at all but very overpriced for what you get. I thought I caught them on a off day when I tried them first, so I gave them a second chance. Both times I found the toppings sparse, and the base doughy. By the time I was done I was still hungry and had a sore jaw from all chewing. I think these guys are trying the gourmet thing with gourmet prices, but its not working.

If you like lots of tomato base, bland dough and toppings you can count, then this place is for you.

Otherwise you will get a much better pizza from Pizza Hut (which isnt saying much), for half the price.

“So damn delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

After our trip to France, we couldn't wait to get back home so we could eat your fantastic menu again and again....Everything is so fresh and prepared with love that it is so damn delicious.
Ballarat wouldn't be the same without you. France is becoming such an addict of fast processed food it is not even funny. You are the perfect example of good value for money with the best ingredients. If you like Pizza hut better then you should be ashamed of yourself as you don't understand anything about food.
