2.20pm on a Sunday afternoon and looking forward to a relaxed lunch (yes a bit late - but it was Sunday) On arrival my friend and I were shown to a table and took a seat (after brushing the crumbs off the chair) The wait staff told us the soup of the day and to order at the counter (no mention of time). I ordered a couple of coffees while we perused the menu and decided what to order. (The coffee was actually quite good)
My friend went to order for us - only to return to tell me the kitchen had closed and we couldn't order any food!! Laughable! I could not believe it - just when we are priding ourselves on Ballarat becoming a little more hip with a strong dining and cafe culture. While I was lamenting this fact, 3 ladies on the table beside us asked where they could have lunch in Ballarat on a Sunday. They were visiting from Melbourne and commented on 'how good business must be' to turn 5 people away at 2.35 on a Sunday afternoon. We all went to L'espresso - Consistently very good!
