“Golden Street”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Lydiard St is one that has been kept as much as possible as original condition reflecting the wealth of Ballarat in the Gold rush era. If you are interested in buildings this is worth the visit. Be aware that the street goes both sides of Sturt St.

Very pretty and historical street. Beautiful and well looked after buildings. The information bureau is on this street. Finding parking is very difficult.

“Take a tour of history”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

First of all, head to the Visitors Centre and grab the brochure that explains all the buildings and sculptures in the city centre. Its free. Take your time strolling down Lydiard Street reading all about the history of this amazing city. You don't see buildings like this just anywhere. Also, take note of the median strip along Sturt Street. You will be amazed at what you will learn.

“Absorb the atmosphere”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

We started our Lydiard St walkabout at the wonderful old railway station. I swear I saw Miss Marple step off a train that had just arrived. The atmosphere of the area and just about every building in Lydiard street took us back to the gold rush era. Try it and see if it works for you. We loved the Art Gallery, the Miners Exchange, the entire street's history and the George Hotel after the walk.
