Wattle Point retreat is a beauty. Often retreats that are described as secluded offer up accommodation and surrounds which are basic but our place at Wattle Point - Ivanhoe Cabin - was clean and had everything needed for my wife and I to enjoy a comfortable weekend away. For those who simply want to re-energise, this place is the tonic. You can watch the world from your private balcony with the only sound being that of birdsong and the breeze and it moves through the wattle. If the beautiful silence is not enough to kick the stress levels back into neutral then a soak in the outdoor spa or a walk through the beautiful surrounding bushland - home to deer, wombat, echidna's and kangaroos - might do the trick. The more adventurous can take to the canoes - if Lake Victoria is of a mind to allow visitors - have a swim in the pool, feed the resident kangaroos, or ride the bikes. For city folks like my wife and I, Wattle Point Retreat was a breath of fresh air which reminded us that the world is more then just traffic and mayhem; it reminded us that there are places where you can see stars and hear nothing but the wind in the trees.

Tips: Take along all the food you need as it is a pain to go back to Paynesville or Bairnsdale for supplies. A microwave, a cooktop and a BBQ are supplied as well as a fridge so there are no limits to what you can bring along to eat. Maybe time your visit to coincide with the Bairnsdale Farmer's Market (as we did, by fluke I might add) so you can stock up on some great produce. It happens the first Saturday of every month.

The water is fine to drink from the taps.

I had no problems with mobile reception, I am with Telstra.

TV reception can be a bit hit or miss so take a good book and some favorite DVD's. You can borrow DVD's from reception at no cost as well.

We stayed for a weekend for a private function, but we wished we had more time to stay and relax. The location could not be better, so peaceful and relaxing. There are a herd of friendly kangaroos that pop by to say hello. The management even gives you seed to feed them and the local birds.

Accommodation is great, although most units only have one room with a queen bed in it. The rest have bunk beds. But they are clean and have all the facilities and equipment you'll need, including a coffee plunger.

We won a competition for 2 nights at Waterfront Retreat, what a find!! This place is well off the main roads, away from everything, it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, it is superb. A beautiful waterfront setting, your own fully self contained home (we stayed in Stormbird, which had water views). Kayak, canoes, DVD's, heated pool, spa, sauna, are all included. This is a great place to get away from it all; to just sit back and read a book; relax; eat; drink; meditate; whatever you like, it's definately worth a weekend away (or longer). We are definately going back, this place was a real find, and we've told our friends about it too. Bring your food as it's about 20-30mins from any shops. The kangaroos are amazing, they come by for a feed every day in the late afternoon - talk about getting back to nature!

Room Tip: Not all rooms have water outlook, some are in the bush, check the map before booking

We've stayed at Wattle Point twice now, and will definitely be back again soon.
The cabins are well appointed and spacious and set far enough apart that you don't have to listen to, or even see, your neighbours if you don't wish to.
The facilities are just fantastic and the surrounding bush is lovely too.
I suggest bringing most of your food with you, as it is a little far (20 minutes or so) to go into Paynesville or Bairnsdale every night.
Can't wait to come back soon.

Great place to relax with a swim in the indoor pool, mineral spring spa, sit on jetty to watch sunrises & sunsets over the water or just watch the wildlife fly, hop or swim past. Then retire to watch the flames dance in the log fire as you sip your favourite drink. If you want to be more active then there's a tennis court, push bikes & canoes ( all free ). Accomodation is very clean & modern. Owners are very helpful. What are you waiting for ? James Mead
