Owner description: Experience the excitement and history of Launceston's spectacular Tamar River from the comfort of our unique vessels. An informative commentary from our skippers will take you on a historical journey where you will discover the stories and tales that shaped Launceston and the Tamar Valley. Travel in to the heart of the Tamar and view the navigable section of the spectacular Cataract Gorge. Sample the delights of our local wines and cheeses as you view breathtaking scenery, world class vineyards, historical buildings, rural settings and frequent encounters of fascinating wild life including sea eagles, wild duck, black swans, pelicans, plus many other varieties of water-fowl and occasionally playful seals. One of our passenger recently commented it is like a moving postcard. It is certainly a 'must do' when visiting Launceston!

While the people were very nice and the boat was very well taken care of-don't bother. We did the 50 minute $25 cruise. We didn't see anything we couldn't have seen for free. I thought we would see more of the river, or more of the gorge. If you are physically able to just walk through the gorge. You will see way more and for free! Don't waste your time or money.

Leaving Launceston for Devonport on Australia Day, we opted to take in the short fifty minute cruise to Cataract Gorge. We had a lovely guide whose commentary was very informative, and it was a great way to spend an early Saturday morning. If we had our time to in Launceston again, it probably would make more sense to do this cruise as an introductory to Launceston activity; That way you could plan a couple of activities based on the tour guides information and recommendations. Customer service was fabulous and nothing was a bother. The cruise was excellent value and would recommend it as a must do…..

The river cruise was a very lovely way to spend a day. The captain and host were friendly and knowledgable with the commentary being informative and interesting. The food served was plentiful and refreshing and the boat itself was roomy and did not feel cramped.
The tour did seem to drag a little at the end, 4 hours is a long time to spend on a boat and if you have kids I'd suggest bringing an iPod to help keep them entertained.
Worth doing for the views of Cataract gorge via the river.

While visiting my very dear friend in Devonport, she took me away to Launceston for the Tamar River Cruise. What a wonderful experience. Great service and attention by the staff, and a great boat to see the sights from many positions...including enjoying being the "bow chicks" on the bow with a glass of local wine or beer, while eating our lunch and music in the background. We had a local wine tasting, and a tasty lunch of various baguettes and fruit and cheese. When we first came on board they had a selection of cakes, coffee, and a very wide range of Dilmah teas in their boxes. It was a very pleasant day, and we very happy that the sun shone, there weren't too many clouds, and the river breeze through our hair , just sometimes, was really refreshing and exhilarating. Very happy to do this with my husband when we come over again.
I do hope they start dredging the river again to take away the build up of silt in the river. Otherwise it's a river in trouble!!!!!

Our cruise on the Tamar was an enjoyable afternoon. If you are planning on seeing cataract gorge, this is not the way to do it as the boat obviously can only go up to the first set of rapids, so it doesnt really go into the gorge. As the website states that it visits catarat gorge, we assumed we would see it and thus missed it on our trip as we had no more time to see it.

We saw the white bellied sea eagle mating pair and cruised up the river. The cruise host was informative and fun, however, the cruise went further up ther river and peoples interest wains as the cruise is a little bit to long. However, the cruise was a great way to see the Launceston Tamar banks from a beter perspective than anywhere else.
