Description: Local Food, local wine, local talent.... Stillwater's food and wine philosophy: Our food is fresh, grown locally by passionate producers who rely on the attributes of our natural environment. Our State regulations keep the modification out of our genetics, the artificial out of our hormones and the free in our ranging animals. We know grass fed, antibiotic free, natural, happy animals make better meat....even if they aren't 'super sized'. Our water is clean, sourced from Cape Grim on Tasmania's North West Coast, home of the cleanest air on the planet. Our wines flow from around the State but being located in the Tamar Valley means Stillwater is a cornerstone for the local vignerons hosting a list that showcases the highly respected local tipples. Stillwater Partners: The Stillwater owner partnership is home grown as well, raised in a community that nurtures its youth and cares about its neighbours. Stillwater Restaurant: Being fortunate enough to live and work in one of the most beautiful places on the planet is one of the bonuses for the team at Stillwater River Cafe, Restaurant and Wine Bar. Situated in the historic Ritchie's Mill at the mouth of the Cataract Gorge on the banks of the Tamar River in Launceston, Tasmania the restaurant glows with the authentic warmth only an 1830's timber building can offer. The casually elegant ambiance ensures guests feel welcome and comfortable whether enjoying a casual breakfast, corporate lunch, special dinner, a glass of wine after work or just a coffee. Comprised of a number of spaces Stillwater has a main dining room that seats guests comfortably amongst the Oregon timber beams and Kauri pine floors and the original bluestone wine cellar full of character as well as fabulous wines. On fine days the outdoor courtyard offers views overlooking the Tamar River and the Wine Bar adjacent to the entrance is a great retreat for a bar snack and cocktail. Stillwater is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch and Tuesday* through Saturday for our indulgent evening menu (*subject to winter hours), reservations are highly recommended. A vibrant centre of the local community, Stillwater has achieved many hospitality, wine and business awards over the years from local to National for all aspects of the business. Stillwater Providore: The food theme continues throughout the building with The Providore above Stillwater showcasing our fabulous local produce in a deli and food shop alongside talented local arts, craft and homewares.

As we did not have a reservation for dinner and would have to wait 1.5 hours for a table, we accepted the option of staying in the verandah bar area upstairs, with the bar snack menu. We had the salumi, mushroom tempura and cheeses. Also two glasses of a good pinot noir priced $16 and $17 each, and a large bottle of sparkling water which cost $9.50. So at the end we felt this snack was a bit too expensive at $84. We had to ask to have the windows closed as there was a really cold draught. We think the restaurant is probably good for special occasions as it looked elegant, has a classy menu and well-groomed staff, however, the bar verandah area appears to be slightly under considered.

The total experience is faultless, from making a reservation to the reception, the atmosphere, the service and professionalism of the staff.. Then the food, calling it food does not do justice to the exquisitely prepared meal which we enjoyed. Everything on the plate was perfectly prepared and presented, everything presented on each plate perfectly complimented the other components on the
Ate.

A wonderful experience, one which we hope to repeat again and again.

I booked a degustation at Stillwater as an expensive indulgence during my second tour of Tasmania. I had high expectations given the reviews, and that kind of anticipation is often hard to live up to, however Stillwater exceeded my expectations with superb and creative use of local produce, hat-level food and wine matching, impeccable service, and a relaxing yet intimate atmosphere. I was dining alone so I properly had the worst table in the room (next to the kitchen), but that did not detract from the experience at all. I cannot speak highly enough of my experience at Stillwater, and will definitely return for a degustation next time I'm in Tasmania.

This place turned a bit of meeeehhh day around - we had no plan, didn't know where to go / park the car / everything closed still from Christmas and my boyfriend and I had come a long way and needed to get out of the house and get with some civilization. A walk along the water for a while fixed it and then a fantastic bite to eat.

The interior is very wooden and looks more like a place you would find in the south of France than say Paris or London. Service was very very good - the staff could not have been more helpful - even though we had no reservation and they were on a schedule and we asked to move tables. I bet they were loving us...

We could have ordered so many things on the menu but were able to choose something brunchy - why we got two courses I will never know. We were completely stuffed! The food was excellent, fresh and inventive without being overly fancy and complicated. We were really impressed and couldn't fault anything about the food or the place.

Compared to other places in the area it is expensive. Compared to the rest of the world it isn't but the quality is excellent.
