We travel a lot and we are regularly asked to fill in guest surveys, give feedback on various websites or pamplets so for the most part I tend not to bother however on this occasion I felt compeled to share my expereince at this wonderful hotel.

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Mercure in Launceston for a mini break from Melbourne, right from the get go we were made to feel very welcome. Every staff member we encountered was so helpful and seemed genuinly happy about thier work, nothing was too much trouble from suggesting some great little spots to stop and see around town to making bookings for us and organizing hire cars. I know you get this service in lots of places but it was simply the attitude of the staff that blew me away, they genuinly wanted to ensure we had a good holiday.

We had breakfast at the hotel 2 of the 3 mornings and it was great, good selection of both hot breakfasts and nice fruits pastries and if you go try the muffins they are excellent!. The other morning we went around the corner to a bakery which was also really good!!. We did have a room on one of the top couple of floors so had air conditioning and heat wasnt an issue for us. Rooms were reletavily modern and confortable. The last night we went along to a wine dinner they were holding at the hotel which was most enjoyable, they had a local winemaker talk who actually owned/ran the winery so it was very informative. I have been to a few similar functions and they can be a bit dull and overcrowded, but this wasn't, there wasnt too many people, and the lady from the winery was very engaging, the hotel managers were also there and it was good to talk with them also.

All in all I cant speak highly enough of this hotel, we certainly will be back guys. thank you very very much for making it such a special break for us

The Mercure Launceston was our first stop on a 1 week trip around Tassie and having a 4.5 star rating we had reasonably high expectations. The hotel has a great location in the CBD of Launceston but it is a tired old girl in need of an upgrade. It was a culmination of the little things that would expected in a 4.5 star that built up to give an overall impression of being dated. Our first impression after checking in was the smell of the corridors which were very musty. Our room, on the second floor had no air conditioning, however on day 2, housekeeping gave us an evaporative air cooler for the room. It wasn't particularly hot, just stuffy. There is no internet available in the room, however it was available, I believe, in the foyer at a charge. The satellite/cable TV in the room was an analogue TV with local stations and foxsports. Movies etc were available at a charge. Parking was in a public car park behind the hotel and was available, yep you guessed it, at a charge. The whole place just had the feel that if there was a way we could squeeze another dollar out of you - we will.
In contrast, our next stop at a little motel on the east coast which featured free movies, free wireless internet, free parking and was half the price and twice as friendly.

Dear M_and_M

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback from your recent stay at Mercure Launceston, she is a 'grand old girl' indeed and we often have comments from travelers about the uniqueness of the hotel including our very own original Launceston Tram!. Whilst we have been able to retain some of the unique aspects of the original building the hotel underwent complete refurbishment in 2006, and now offers everything from flat screen TV's, in room internet, 2 Bars, and 6 function rooms, and parking is as you mentioned at a discounted daily charge of $4 per day. Just last year we added to our rooms that do have air conditioning and now have over 30% of our rooms with full air conditioning available on the top two floors and the balance with evaporation coolers.

I thank you again for taking the time to share your stay and hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Kind Regards

Darren Pike
