“Rooms immaculate, service exceptional, 5 STARS”
Reviewed February 12, 2011

The rooms are absolutely immaculate and very well presented. I was told this is due to recent refurbishments which have seen all rooms given new floors, paint, beds etc. The cleanliness of the room was outstanding each day and service at front desk was very friendly. The staff were willing to provide extra tea/coffee and milk upon request, ample information on Launceston and surrounds and were generally very happy to help. There is a supermarket/complex across the road which is 24 hours + a huge park within 50 metres + a sports centre across the road with a kids indoor playground, tennis and mini golf. absolutely no complaints - cannot fault this hotel.

We spent 5 nights at the Elphin over Christmas in a 3 bedroom apartment and found it quite acceptable for the money. The location is not bad with a large supermarket and other shops within easy walking distance, but Launceston itself is a drive.
Unit was old and a bit tired but if you after a 3 bedroom place with a kitchen, on a budget the Elphin is ok ..
If you are after 5 star luxury look elsewhere

The service was polite & friendly, but no-one was available after 8pm. We had no milk & the Reception said it was open till 8.30. The front door was entered via ground floor then up 12 stairs to the living area and bedrooms etc. It was nice and bright and surprisingly modern. The bathroom was lovely. Everything you needed included. The whole 2 bedroom unit was very clean and just big enough for 4. The kitchen was sufficient with a 2 seater lounge and a comfy club chair. Table for breakfast too. The location was ok. Shopping centre opposite, 10 min walk to City & 5 minutes to the Park. Nice & quiet location.

We stayed there with a large group and they were very obliging with us. The outside is nice but the inside is tired. It needs re-painting and modernized as it just has the basics that are pretty worn. We kept sticking to the floor and anything we put on the coffee table would just stick to it because the coverings were so old. The wardrobes in the bedrooms had no drawers so everything had to just sit around on the floor. The bathroom was great, very roomy.

I paid cash up front and they still want my cerdit card details. Due to the fact I don't have a cerdit card they then took my number plate of my rental car and took alot of things out of my room before I went in. On return of the Key the lady on the front desk wanted to charge me for all the stuff missing from my room. I then had to explain of what happen and had to wait until they located the staff member so that I could go. I got no sorry for what they had done to me. For the price of the room I thought that it was going to be the best place in Tasmania but it wasn't. The location was excellent with woolworths and fitness centre across the road. The website pictures made it like nicer then what it was.

We are sorry to read of your disappointment in regards to our front office procedures.

Due to the fact that there is a full mini bar and unlimited use of the internet / telephone in the rooms, we require that all guests provide a credit card number as security.

When a guest does not have a credit card, as some people do not, we give the option of a $100 cash deposit - (refundable at check out) or we remove the mini bar if the guest would prefer.

Number plates are recorded for all guests as we are sometimes asked if we can have a car moved which maybe occupying a designated car space outside their room. Parking at your front door is important for many of our guests.

Once again we are sorry you feel our procedure to be intimidating, but I think you will find in any establishment where there is a well stocked mini bar, you will be required to provide a credit card number or some sort of bond.

The beds were about 3 years past their use by date. We had been told that they had recently renovated but only some things looked new. The table was well worn and stained. The bathroom had a new vanity but you could see the dirt down the side of it where they had not re-tiled. The bathroom could have done with a good scrubbing brush and bleach (a bit of mould on the tiles in the shower. Overall very poor for the price. $120 for a 2 bedroom self contained unit. We had stayed in other much better units across Tasmania for about $85 per night.

Beds can sometimes prove to be a difficult item. Accommodating each individual guests requirements is extremely hard as some people like a soft bed while others like to sleep in a firm bed. At the Villas we have a range of both. If a mattress is faulty then it would be replaced immediately, as we of course value new guests as well as our many repeat customers and corporates.

Our refurbishment included a complete overhaul of new bathrooms / new kitchen / painting and floor coverings. There are some furniture items we are still in the process of upgrading, but as you would appreciate takes a little time.

I was disappointed to read you found a small amount of mould in your shower, as we do have a team of dedicated Room Attendants who are usually right on top of their profession.

Upon further investigation our maintenance staff have replaced a cracked tile and we can ensure you of our best endeavour in the future to prevent a similar situation.

Thank you for your comments as we do appreciate feedback from our guests.

Stayed there 14th to 17th March 2009 and found the two room apartment very comfortable. It is ideally situated within easy walking distance to the city centre and has a late closing supermarket just behind the Villas. Some noise from hoon drivers in the supermarket carpark but that's not a problem the management can do anything about. Good service, very clean and we would definitely stay there again.
