“Totally enjoyable journey- along one side and back the other”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Tamar Valley can be driven beside on both sides so start on one side and cross using the Batman Bridge to the other. West Tamar side has Legana, Beaconsfield with the gold mine exhibit, Beauty Point with Platypus House and Seahorse World. Lunches available at several cafes. On the East Tamar side is Hillwood Berry Farm and Low Head- such a pleasant way to meander along this area.

“Vineyards not open”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

Despite advertising as being open on that day in the Tamar valley wine map, we found two of three vineyards we stopped at were not open. Got a few of bottles from the open place and decided on other activities in the area, writing the vineyards off. Interestingly, mentioned this to the hotel owner at breakfast the next day and she indicated its not uncommon for them to decide not to open on a whim.

The platypus house is worth a stop, particularly if you have kids. The knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide showed you round the platypus and echinda areas.

Let the kids out for a run at Greens Beach, or take a romantic stroll. The pilot station at George Town and the light houses make a nice photo stop.

Overall its a nice spot and a very pretty day drive. As for doing the wine trail, until they sort out the published openings against actual openings, I would suggest another area for your wine fix.

“Nice drive to Greens Beach - Many wineries”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

We did a drive to the farthest point at Greens Beach and had a very pleasant excursion. Lots of sheep and cattle grazing. We did not stop at the many wineries but that could have taken up the entire day.
