My husband and I really enjoyed our Boag's tour. It was interesting learning about the brewery and seeing the processes in action, but also great to hear little stories and tales of Launceston and the brewery's history. Out tour guide was really informative, friendly and had a great sense of humour.
To top it off, the beer and cheese tasting was awesome (and really, they weren't just 'tastings', they were decent sized glasses of beer!). Even though I'm not a huge lover of beer, I found the experience absolutely worthwhile and enjoyable.

I love seeing the way beer is made in different places and here it is amazing how few employees are needed. The tour includes a visit to a museum and some tasting. I went on a weekend and realized later that since the brewery was not operating I could hear the tour guide and understand the process better. It was fun to be around others that share my passion for beer.

When we booked the tour the lady on the phone did explain that as a working brewery there may be sections of the brewery that would not be working, which we accept is likely to be the case. What she did NOT tell us was that this particular day was a "family day" for the brewery staff and NONE of it would be working - which was a major disappointment.

When we arrived at the appointed time, 15 minutes before the tour was due to start, we were told that the shop selling Boag's memorabilia and items would be shut by the time the tour ended so if we wanted to purchase anything we would have to do so straight away and carry it round the factory with us.

The tour guide was informative and enjoyable to listen too, but as all of the factory was closed it was not quite what we had been hoping to see.

At the end of the tour there was a tasting, which i had been lookign forward too as previously I had only tried Boag's Draught and premium beers. I was looking forward to trying some of their other beers. Imagine my disappoinment when we were told that they were only offering tastings of 3 beers, the Draught, Premium and Wizard Smith's.

At least the WIzard's smiths was a beer I had not tried before as it is only available in Tasmania, and as it turned out was my favourite of the 3.

I would have preferred to have half a glass of more of beers. For comparison the Monteith's brewery in New Zealand do exactly that, they offer tastings of all of their beers and then let you choose which one you would like a full glass of to finish.

To end with after the tasting we walked past the gift shop which had staff in, and were selling items to people on the tour that they knew, but not to anyone else. I found this very annoying. Had we had more time we would have been likely to buy glasses and other memorabilia, but as they did nto seem to want to take my money we left without.

This was a fantastic tour. We were taken through the whole brewery and was astounded to see the range of beer they make. They were installing a new bottling line at the time so we didnt see that running. The tastings at the end of the tour was fantastic, and we tried the whole range and happily went on our way.

You don't have to be a beer lover to appreciate a tour of Boag's brewery but it surely didn't hurt our thirsty group of eight who thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there. Seeing where one of our favourite beers comes from and learning how it's made certainly added to our pleasure at the tasting session that followed. Our guide was full of personality and knowledge, and the scale of the brewing processes is impressive. Watching the conga line of bottles clink down the conveyor on their way to final packaging was entertaining; sadly the labels betrayed the fact that it was XXXX in the bottles and not Boag's. We clearly got the picture about this being part of a national - and global - brewing giant and not just a little boutique brewery in a small town in a small state. Did I mention we enjoyed the tasting after the tour? Even had a Boag's that's only available in Tassie and can't be had for love or money in our home state of NSW. An enjoyable and educational couple of hours that adults will appreciate.
