How disappointing this terrible place was! We had the unfortunate experience of spending the last night of our holiday here in late october and not helping matters we were in the room next to the guest lounge and dining room. Although the room itself was quite nice (apart from the mouldy bathroom) the noise in this place was terrible, not only street noise from york street but also from other guests and staff who strut around on the polished floors in the halls with high heels on. There is no attempt to keep quiet. Breakfast is served from 8-9 so any attempt at a sleep in is pointless. A real shocker which is such a shame because the building is quite beautiful.

Our stay at Waratah on York was a lovely end to our holiday in Launceston. We couldnt have asked for anything better. The accommodation was expensive but you always get what you pay for. We paid over $200 for the executive spa room with priceless views to the north of the city and surrounding farm land in the distance. We would recomend anyone wanting something special to come and stay at Waratah on York. It really is something special.

My wife and I were very dissapointed and had expected something more. Compared to other hotels in Launceston, Waratah is very expensive so we had expected something more than 2nd rate furnishings, noise from the nearby road and a very poor breakfast (a few packets of cereals and tinned fruit only). While basically Ok - its clean and safe - this was certainly the worst value accomodation we experienced in Tasmania and we would not return.

We stayed in room 7 on the 2nd fl. facing york st. The room was big with high ceiling, a fireplace, and sofa bed. The room was very big and comfortable. The bathroom was small by comarison with shower only, no bathtub. The light was dim in the room. It made reading difficult. The downstair sitting room wsa nice. The breakfast room was very simple. Breakfast was also simple but has fresh fruits. I felft very comfortable in this old mansion. Staffs were very friendly. There is a folder of menus from the local restaurants in the sitting room. We booked it on the hotel site directly. It was worth the money.

On our recent holiday to Tasmania we had the pleasure of staying at Waratah On York. I must say that the owners have paid great attention to detail to restore this old building . From the ornate cornices to the beautiful smell of the rose garden, it's takes you back in time. The room we stayed in was spacious and decorated to suit with a fabulous view of the Tamar River. The bathroom had a relaxing spa bath and was very clean and modern. The breakfast was more than adequate. The property was located within walking distance to Launceston and the staff were only too happy to recommend some local attractions and restaurants. Overall, we had a very memorable stay and can't wait to return. Thank you very much.

I stayed here on my honeymoon in a spa room with balcony, after reading a review in Lonely Planet. Whilst its clean and functional this is hotel is not worth the $230 a night which we paid. The lounge is very poor with chairs that look as though they have come from the local second hand store, whilst the breakfast area again is functional but without any style of charm. The breakfast itself is a very dissapointing given the room rate, comprising of only basic (and poor quality) continental provisions. The room itself is clean and functional, but looks as though its been furnished cheaply and like the rest of the place has styling that looks like it comes straight from the local second hand store! Additionally there is some traffic noise, even in this is a room which is away from the road.
We stayed in Tasmania for 2 weeks, and this was by a far the most dissapointing hotel we stayed in - not because it was particularly bad but largely because we felt it offerred extremely poor value for money. We ended our stay in The Old Bakey hotel, which I avoided initially as I wanted something different than a 'Best Western' for our honeymoon. In actual fact this turns out to be better furnished and an improvement in almost all respects compared to the Waratah, and at literally half the price!!

My wife and I stayed here one night in February, 2004. Locating the place was a bit challenging, particularly because the main entrance and visual front of the building are not on the main thoroughfare but rather around back, on a side street. A beautiful restored mansion in Launceston, the Waratah was a true find. Our room was small but nicely furnished with a good sized bathroom and even a small writing alcove. The double bed was very comfortable. The staff was welcoming and helpful. All in all, we highly recommend this hotel.
