Comfort Inn Coach House

The hotel is on the side of a hill with a car park at 45degrees and a view of derelict houses so probably not the place to stay on a scenic tour of Tasmania. That said the room was perfectly functional with a comfortable bed and was clean. similar standard to a travelodge in the UK so you get what you pay for. my own choice having now visited lauceston would be to find a motel out towards the Tamar river where the views are delightful but if you want a city centre hotel then it is reasonable value

Room Tip: Top floor room

Top marks to the Coach House Inn for doing a family room and not expecting us to get two rooms!

We stayed in a family room in January 2014. It was a good sized room for 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids aged 11 and 14). The room was big enough to have a proper table and chairs, microwave and good range of crockery, good sized bathroom and another room that was basically a walk in wardrobe. Bedding configuration was one queen plus a double decker / double under single on top. The room was clean and tidy and well equipped with tea and coffee etc. There was also free wifi of a reasonable speed.

The motel is on York Street which seems to be the street for accommodation. It goes directly into the centre of town. There is a reasonably priced coin op laundry on site, which is handy when you are travelling with a family.

The only down sides – we could hear noise from the units above us (eg toilet flushing) but apart from that, it was a quiet place. The slope on the car park is a bit scary, particularly when you are driving an unfamiliar hire car as we were, but apart from that, no problems.

As soon as I checked in the friendly staff was very helpful with information as to where to visit etc. My room was on the 3rd floor which a pain to carry all our luggage to but the room was comfortable and had a great view. The motel itself was quite old but it is worth the $100 we paid for a night. The bed mattress was firm and comfortable. The free wi-fi was a great bonus and was greatly appreciated. I would definitely stay there again.

We were only passing through Launceston for one night, so wanted to find a place that was affordable but also close to the main part of town. The Comfort Inn is at the top of a hill just on the fringe of the CBD, so it would be a decent walk if you were going on foot - it would be assumed most people visiting Launceston would probably have a car with them anyway. The hotel itself is rather old, maybe 60's/70's and the rooms definitely show it's age, but its still clean and spacious, with most rooms having a nice view to the north of Launceston. Free WiFi in every room, which is a must these days (I flat out refuse to pay ridiculous fees some hotels charge for Wifi). Some of the cons of the hotel were that there is no lifts, so if you're not on the ground floor or have non-mobile people in your group, this may be an issue. The rooms do also have cable TV, but only a limited selection of channels. We also found the air-con in the room didn't work particularly well, and woke up to a freezing room in the morning when we realised the air-con heater wasn't automatically gauging the room temp. In saying that though, I would stay here again if we go back to Launceston as it is still in a convenient location to the city and is one of the better priced places in town, even if it is a little more "worn in".

Room Tip: Try and ask for a ground floor (or first level) room, as there are no lifts at this hotel, and older...

Location is pretty good! We parked the car in the car park and walked into the CBD...being young people this was no problem for us, but may be a bit challenging for older people. Rooms were very basic, but clean. Reception lady was lovely. Only really bad point was the shower temperature. It was impossible to get an even temperature - it was either scolding hot or freezing cold! Could also use new pillows in the room. Both of ours were very flat and the spare in the wardrobe was lumpy! Would stay again though.
