Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston

My experience at the Hotel Grand Chancellor was largely positive. Front of desk service was great, staff gave us information about where to park and checkout was quick and easy. The room was lovely and the bathroom was excellent with modern fittings. A full size hair dryer was provided, which I appreciated. The beds were clean and comfortable. The area around the TV, however could have done with a good clean. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

My husband, myself and our one year old stayed here for 4 nights during a Tasmania holiday. After staying at Wrest point in Hobart, with its 70s decor, the renovated room here was a nice change, the bathrooms especially actually looked renovated, and were clean. In terms of amenities, the room lacks in terms of: only enough provisions for one serving of tea, on the first day we only had one teaspoon and one saucer. The hotel has no pool/gym (although there is a $15/day gym nearby), and wifi is too expensive at $24/day.
Room service is decent, not too expensive, although they do charge a $5 delivery fee.
But the biggest disappointment is the service. At the front desk, Kia is so rude. She's not friendly, no smile, very brusque, did not even offer for anyone to take our bags to our room.
If any of the staff passed us in the hallways they did not ever acknowledge us.
And the other annoying thing is the daily room service for our room is done so late (well after 3-3.30), that we'd often be back in our room, and with a little one needing to nap, our room was only serviced once during our 4 nights meaning we often had to ask for new towels, tea/coffee provisions, even toilet paper, which was a bit disappointing. one evening I needed to ask for some toilet paper, and tissue box as ours had finished, and Kia sounded as though it was a major inconvenience for her to come up (seems there's no room service in the evenings).
For what we paid, I think the service and amenities were quite lacking, especially given the renovated rooms are nice, and hotel locations is only walking distance from city centre and heaps of restaurants.

Room Tip: choose a renovated room

The check in time is 2pm. We only got our rooms at 3pm, and the same happened to many other customers. We were all left waiting at the lobby for the rooms to be ready. No drinks were offered for service recovery.
The room itself is fine. Clean sheets and clean towels. But overall, i think the service sucks.

Our room was slightly dark, due to the styling, but clean and comfortable. The location is good, within walking distance to food and entertainment. Very comfortable beds, and the bathroom a good size and very clean. The service was good and the staff very helpful. Only gripe was the parking, where you had to pay to park in a public car park, but this seems to be the norm in Launceston. There is better value accommodation in Launceston if you do some research.

On Saturday December 21st as I was attending a wedding luncheon at this hotel I organised to have flowers delivered to the bride and groom in the restaurant at that time there were no other tables occupied in his wisdom the front desk receptionist decided there was no wedding there and had them returned to the florist ,how difficult would it have been to check an almost empty restaurant to inquire if anyone was expecting flowers guest service on his behalf non existent myself bride and groom were all very disappointed in this lack of service and when I went to the desk to check I was treated in a very off handed manner because the shop was then closed the bride did not get her flowers until Monday :(
I would not think it unusual for flowers to be delivered to guests in the hotel !

Room Tip: Did not stay at the hotel

We stayed for 1 night in October. We had booked a refurbished king room (thinking that for a hotel as old as this one, this would be one of the better rooms) and were looking forward to "living it up". The room was very average - yes it had a king size bed (with no cover on the doona). the air conditioner was an evaporative cooler bolted to the floor in the corner. The bins looked like they had been purchased at a thrift shop. The exhaust fan in the bathroom was half blocked with a build up of dust. To top it off, the $100 security deposit that was put on our credit card took 9 days to be released (only after I rang to complain) - despite there being no charges added to the booking.
I would say very average at best. Friends and family stayed at The Olde Tudor Hotel and from what I could see they got a much better deal and better standard of accommodation than the so called 4-5 star rating that is advertised.
