“Weekend getaway at Grand Chancellor Launceston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

Recently visited Launceston and stayed at the Grand Chancellor. Fabulous hotel, well located and the staff absolutely wonderful. So pleasant, helpful and professional. It was a very busy weekend the the lovely staff at the front desk phoned several restaurants for us before we ventured out to ensure we could get a booking. Excellent service. Buffet breakfast fabulous. My friend is Gluten intolerant and the staff we able to provide gluten free bread for breakfast. A nice touch maybe for the buffet brekkie would be to have an area for Coeliacs as gluten is in just so many things we are not aware of, eg gluten free cereal, bread etc, just a thought. We have not stayed at the Grand Chancellor Hobart, Launceston, looking for the next place where there is a Grand Chancellor. Cannot fault them and was a lovely treat to be made feel so special. thank you to all the staff. Dont forget to visit the Chocolate Factory, Cheese Factory, Wineglass Bay... so easy to drive around surrounding areas.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 5th floor facing the main road, no problems at all with noise.

Date stayed – 28 June 2013 3 nights

No of people 2

Public Areas/Services
Lobby – Big & Spacious
Meals – Good buffet breakfast at reasonable price. Large Restaurant

Concierge – Polite & happy to help in any way

Location – Within main precinct of city. Main visit was to attend AFL. Ground was within 15 minute walk

Room Quality
Size – good size with 2 double beds, lounge chair & desk. Bathroom also good size
Condition – recently renovated but feel just completed what was required. Still comfortable
View – Good view to north of the city

Transport – a good 15- 20 km from the airport.

Staff Service – Overall friendly & efficient

Suggestions – The hotel was in the process of being renovated. We specifically asked for a renovated room. It is a big hotel that still has an element of grandeur.

Room Tip: Make sure room has been renovated

I stayed at the Grand Chancellor on a recent business trip. My room was on the 6th floor which is the executive level.
Rooms are very spacious and offer a fantastic view.
Staff are very helpful and offer prompt service. The bar offers reasonable drinks.I had room service for breakfast and the selection was great.
The rooms are very clean, warm and most important quiet.
I would highly recommend.

This hotel is starting to show its age in the hallways and bedrooms, but this is nothing a coat of paint and some plaster filler would not fix. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the beds provide a good nights sleep. The buffet breakfast is of good quality and kitchen staff constantly ensure that all the offerings in the bain maries are well stocked. The dining room staff are very friendly and efficient as are the front desk staff. The room service menu is reasonable and quality and delivery time to expectations.

Parking is pay per night in a public car park next door and can be a bit problematic due resident use on weekends. The hotel also has a function room which can also add to parking pressure.

The City Centre and City Park are within easy walking distance, as are local eateries.

All in all a good place to stay in Launceston.

Stayed here for one night in early August 2013, very grand foyer but room only average. The hallway carpets were very stained, not very inviting! The room was large enough, mattress way too soft, and bathroom was dated, carpets and furniture need renewing.Car park is a disappointment, hard to find a space.

Stayed here for 1 night in July. Staff checking us in was very unhelpful. We needed a car park which I was told was included, it's not. $7.00 to park in a big open concrete slab. Needless to say car took 20 minutes to defrost, no water or bucket provided so had to get a container out of trash to run back and forth to a bathroom to fill with water for the windscreen. Room was very old (which we expected, didn't pay extra for new one) and just plain. Asked for a queen got 2 doubles. Location is average, asked reception how to get to town. They have us directions but failed to mention everything's shut Sunday. Including monkey park.

a mate and i decided on a shopping day in launie so chose the grand chancellor yes central and we found value for money but our room was right above the front entrance and the lovely lights that make the outside of the building look very pretty at night shone into the room so brightly the curtains were usless and to be honest i woke on many occasions and wasn't sure if it was night or day jolly shame.
