Owner description: Welcome to Australia’s largest regional museum The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) has enjoyed a long and proud tradition having celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2011. Today it has two key Launceston sites: the 19th century railway workshop at Inveresk which houses the natural science and history collections; and its 1891 Royal Park building on Wellington Street which was officially opened to the public as a dedicated Art Gallery last year. At Inveresk you’ll find our extensive permanent exhibitions Tasmanian onnections, Transforming the Island, hands-on science in the Phenomena Factory, Replay>> Sporting Life in Tasmania and the Heritage Trail. In addition there are a range of special exhibitions and our regular facilities including the Museum Shop, auditorium and café. As if Inveresk is not enough, there is even more at Royal Park. Make sure you visit both sites to really experience all that QVMAG has ‘On show’.

We loved that the museum catered for all ages. The hands on area was great and it was nice to not have to run after the kids and stop them from touching things. We'll be back again.

Found this museum by accident thoroughly enjoyed the time there. Loved the old blacksmith workshop. And the dinosaurs.

We spent just under 2 hours having a look around the museum. There were some interesting pieces and a good interactive area for kids. Our 3 1/2 year old had a great time and was very entertained for the entire visit. If you're looking for something to do, it's worth a few hours. We could have spent longer here if we were child free.

The museum was disappointing - no real depth to any of the exhibitions, and it was quite small if you remove the train part. It seemed to be trying to be a bit of everything, historical, hands on ...
The art gallery however was brilliant. A room dedicated to a local historic painter which was fantastic. I enjoyed this more than anything. The wilderness photography was also good.
My rating is average only because the museum was pretty average. Staff at both the museum and art gallery were extremely helpful.
