“A Real Find - This is about a Great Hotel Room”
Reviewed May 8, 2012

Used this hotel for one night prior to transferring to walk the Overland Track.

The positives. I had a great room. Large. Very comfortably furnished. A really comfortable bed (and pillows). Great (and big) bathroom with good toiletries. One of the best hotel rooms I have stayed in during the past 4 years.

Also on the positives - service at reception on arriving and leaving was friendly, prompt and courteous throughout. The hotel is a refurbished old hotel oppositer Boags Brewery. There is (in the main building where I stayed) an old time character and lovely ambience throughout. While I did not have a car there appears to be ample free parking (check).

Location - the hotel does not have views as such and is about 10min level walking from the Launceston CBD. I get the impression that this is pretty similar for most hotel options in Launceston.

Caution - in the main building there are no lifts - be prepared to carry your bages up stairs and perhaps ask for a room on the 1st floor.

There is a pleasant lounge/bar/breakfast room area. I used this for both dinner and breakfast and the ambience was fine. The service was also friendly on both occasions. The breakfast itself was average and the evening meal was ... ok ..... nothing remarkable and not particularly cheap. Next time I would find an alternative for dinner.

I would definitely stay here again for the great room and very good service.

Room Tip: I had room 35 and found it excellent. A double with king size bed and in the main building. Be awa...

This hotel was fantastic! If has such a great cozy feel. The building is very heritage and so well looking after yet with all modern features! The rooms are very spacious with modern decor but still keeping the heritage feel. It has free Internet, free parking. The restaurant was lovely and the service was 5 star. It's close to the city park and the mall area. I really enjoyed my stay here and I would stay here again.

Travelled as a couple to Launceston for the AFL footy and stayed at City Park. It is an old renovated place so the rooms are tight but very well presented. It had the vibe and the location. Walking distance to everything, water front, footy venue and some night life. We were in the main hotel and enjoyed our stay. Plenty of free car parking. Only problem was no free WiFi!!!

We spent our one night in Launceston at the Clarion City Park Grand, in a gorgeous, comfy and quiet room in the Stables. We felt quite self-contained, almost like being in an apartment, so didn't really get a sense of what the main hotel building is like.
The bathroom was very well equipped, and the robes and slippers were appreciated.
The bedroom had a comfortable king sized bed and decent sized flat screen telly.
The location worked well for us, as we didn't arrive in Launceston til after 4.30 and wanted to visit the Design Centre (knew we wouldn't have time the next day) - it is a short walk from the hotel, so we were able to have a successful visit there before it closed at 5.30.
In the evening we caught a cab to Stillwater restaurant, then walked back to the hotel, to walk off dinner and see a bit of the city on foot.
In the morning my husband walked to Tant pour Tant to get us take away breakfast (a filled baguette, almond croissant and coffees) - both Stillwater and Tant pour Tant are highly recommended.
We'd like to spend more time in Launceston, and would definitely go back to the City Park Grand Stables.

I would like to say that I booked to stay Saturday night in a room with 2 queen beds for my 2 boys and myself and how impressed we are. The apartment was large and extremely well equiped. The beds were very comfortable, everything was exceptionally clean . Also not noisy at night which can be a problem in town. We will definitely return and stay in The Stables.

Nicely appointed and very comfortable. Also next door to the Boags brewery and nearby restaurants and the CBD.

Room Tip: Go the stables. Much bigger rooms with spas

We stayed in an upstairs deluxe room for 3 nights in the stables and loved it. The decor was lovely and the room was very spacious. There was a nice, very clean bathroom, and ample parking. However, if you are not able to carry your luggage up two flights of stairs I wouldn't recommend it, as there was no lift.
The staff were a little "posh" and quite short with us a few times, as we are very casual dressing and obviously didn't look like we should be staying there. However, the room was fantastic, very quiet, very close to the centre of Launceston and a very nice place to stay. Everywhere in Launceston was walking distance, and there were plenty of places to eat. It is a short 5 min walk from the gardens, which are well worth a visit. The bed was comfortable and there is also an iPod dock that you can charge your phone on next to the bed.
I would not hesitate to stay at the Clarion again.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't need a lift. If not, go the top floor!
