“Beautiful furniture”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

This building has rooms full of wonderfully designed furniture (amongst other things) made out of equally wonderful Tasmanian woods. I'm particularly enamoured with black hearted sasafrass and blackwood. And after you've finished exploring the centre, you can wander into the City Park next door and enjoy its trees.

“Don't miss this!”
Reviewed January 15, 2014 via mobile

I spotted this on Trip Advisor, and popped in after spending time in the City Park (it is in the top corner of the park, on Tamar St, closer to the CBD in a combination of beautiful new buildings and a lovely old one). I was so impressed - there is student work and much work in wood and glass (and jewellery and woven goods) not only by students but by world standard artisans creating superb works of art. The timber work is simply beautiful, and a lot is available for sale eg a gorgeous myrtle bench whose pair is currently on display in MONA. I would love to fill my house with this work - blown away by the brilliance. And yes, free admission, but do make a donation and spend up at the shop; fantastic spot for gifts, from silver jewellery, scarves and wooden kitchen utensils through to much larger items. A highlight of our two weeks in Tasmania.

“So many lovely things here”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

Exceptionally elegant furniture here showcasing Tasmanian wood and the skills of UTAS graduating design students. Also lovely glass, and jewellery, all inspired by the beauty and wildness of the Tasmanian environment. Truly something different, and a place of quality.
