We dropped by Josef Chromy Cellar Door for a tasting before driving to nearby Launceston airport to catch our flight back to Melbourne.

The Cellar Door is set among old oak trees and topiary gardens and located within an 1800's cottage. Inside the venue is modern and trendy and the views over the ornamental lake and vineyard are impressive.

The wines were excellent across a broad range of cool climate wine styles. I especially loved the Pinot Noir and Sparkling Rose.

They also had a cafe in the cellar door and an upmarket restaurant out the back. The menus looked great so will definitely make more time for lunch on my next visit.

One of the best cellar doors I came across in the Tamar Valley.

Set in a delightful setting overlooking the lake and vineyard we were disappointed at a lunch there recently. We requested an outside table which we were given. However it was disappointing to have paper napkins which disappeared into the distance with a breath of wind.
There were no salt or pepper grinders and the salad was devoid of serving tongs. The onion tart was well presented and was tasteful. The chicken breasts lacked taste in a watery soffrito as was the accompanying salad without servers.
As expected the wines were all from the vineyard and the Pinot Gris was acceptable but overpriced.
Coffee war 5.50 and served with a macaroon.
Overall it was a pleasant lunch which was overpriced and disappointing by the lack of linen napkins, salt and pepper grinders and salad servers which should be expected at a restaurant charging the prices they expect.

We had a short but nice visit to the cellar door. The staff member who served us was very friendly and let us sample a number of nice wines.

We visited this place for a wedding and it was perfect.

The secluded spot under the trees with the magnificent sweeping views and then a delicious and very well priced meal under the big tree outside.

The staff could not have been more accommodating and ensured that everything ran like clockwork and we even had staff dedicated solely to us and met and anticipated our needs.

Their wines were comparable with the best soit is well worth a visit just to sample the wines, or to have a meal. You won't be disappointed.
