We spent two nights here after arriving into Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania. We used the hotel as our base while exploring the northern part of the island. As others have mentioned, the hotel was formerly a hospital, and with that knowledge some features of the hotel are odd and/or spooky - like walking around at night and having lights snap on and go off (apparently triggered by motion detectors). We had a rental car, so on-site parking (included in the room rate) was a nice feature.
Others have mentioned the 1960's decor and hipster atmosphere of the hotel. In some respects, we found the furnishings and room decor to be more focused on form rather than function and ease of use. We frankly found the decor odd and a bit offputting, however no reason not to stay here.
We did like the hotel's location as the surrounding neighborhood made for some enjoyable walks.
Overall, we felt that the hotel offered a reasonable value for what we paid, and the location was excactly what we wanted/needed. On balance we recommend this hotel to you.More
